Status : Temporary, Non-Benefit Eligible
Location : Lisle Campus
Position Summary : Thisposition will be responsible for providing safety, security and protection ofpersons, buildings and / or property within the University.
You will be greeting incoming guests to theCampus Safety Department, answering phone calls, completing reports, monitoringradio’s, and communicating via the radio to other officers on campus.
You willbe responsible for entering data into our reporting system, monitoring alarmand weather tracking systems, operate the Student computer system, conducttraffic control, parking enforcement, safety patrols, answering calls forservice and properly documenting them.
You are expected to report for work fitfor duty, which means able to perform your job in a safe, appropriate, andeffective manner.
The CSO must be available to work on weekdays and weekends on an asneeded basis (a combination of 8 hour and 12-hour day and night shifts).
TheCSO with be expected to become certified / trained in CPR, First Aid and Narcan.
Essential JobResponsibilities : The essential functions or duties listedbelow are intended only as illustration of the various types of work that maybe performed.

1. The CSO works under thegeneral supervision of an Assistant or Associate Director. Is familiar with the work routine and properpolicy and procedures within the department and uses initiative in carrying outrecurring assignments.
Refers tosupervisor for clarification, interpretation, and direction for newassignments; reviews work to remain aware of progress, work methods, andtechnical accuracy.
2. Provide security to the University Community by enforcing UniversityPolicies, securing assigned buildings and frequent campus patrols.
Investigateany observed or reported suspicious activity. Be approachable and responsive torequests. Provide basic information anddirections to students, faculty, staff, and guests of the University.
Monitor and provide guidance to studentworkers to ensure they are successful.
3. Develop and demonstrate amulticultural awareness, cultivating an inclusive, diverse, and respectfulUniversity Community.
When interacting with staff, faculty, students, andguests of the University demonstrate civil and inclusive behavior. Engage in educationalopportunities and required training to increase awareness and understanding ofdiversity and inclusion.
4. Provide safety escorts tostudents, faculty, staff, and guests when requested. Actively patrol campus onfoot, bicycle, golf cart or vehicle.
Assist students, faculty, and staff withaccess to buildings or residence hall rooms as needed and approved.
5. Maintain key control andaccess to secure or restricted areas. Monitor key card access to buildings oncampus. Attend campus safety relatedtraining courses, classes and seminars as needed.
Provide safetypresentations when requested by faculty or staff. Otherinvestigative or special projects assigned by the Director of CampusSafety.
Provide vehicle jumpstarts orunlocks to community members. Provide traffic control at events on campus orduring emergencies.
6. Respond to campus incidents such asburglar / panic alarms, fire alarms, trouble alarms, disputes between students,violations of University Policy, medical and other emergencies.
In times of medical emergencies provideemergency first aid or CPR where appropriate and assist in the transportationof persons when necessary.
Coordinatewith Lisle Police and Lisle / Woodridge Fire Department, Residence Life inresponding to emergencies. Responsiblefor activating the Universities emergency broadcast system for weather andactive threat events.
7. Violations of Code of Conduct will bepromptly, accurately, and thoroughly documented. Complete all necessary forms, includingtickets and reports, provide accurate information of involved persons andwitnesses.
Enforce University parkingrules and regulations and issue campus citations when necessary. Complete a daily summary at the end of yourshift.

- Maintain a positive working relationship with campus personnel and local first responders.
- Clean and fuel department vehicles.
- Annual involvement in the development and implementation of programs designed to interact with students.

Working Conditions : Outdoors in all weather conditions. Some general office work.
Required Qualifications :
Education : High School Graduate / GED Required, Bachelor's Degree Preferred
Experience : Customer serviceexperience preferred. Law enforcementexperience preferred. Higher Education experience preferred.
Specific Skills : Ability to speak clearly and be understood via radio and phonecommunication. Ability to read, understand and apply both written and verbaldirectives.
Normal hearing, due to the heavy volume of telephone and radiocommunication, audible alarms, and duties requiring monitoring ofpolice / fire / EMS radio traffic.
Strong command of the English language. Abilityto maintain calm and professional demeanor during stressful or criticalsituations.
Ability to communicate department / Universitypolicies and procedures in a professional manner. Strong computer skills, including experiencewith Microsoft Office products.
Comfortable with technical equipment toinclude, radios, scanners, electronic access control, fire panels and PC basedprograms.
Ability to work varying shifts, as required to meet departmentalrequirements.
Specific Knowledge, Licenses, Certifications : Yes, ValidIllinois Driver’s License.
Physical Requirements :
Ability to drive a vehicle for extended amounts of timewithout interruption (intervals up to 3-4 hours).
Possess visual acuity.
Good physical condition without any restriction in theability to walk, run, stand or climb multiple flights of stairs.
Ability to sit for an extended amount of time (intervals morethan 60 minutes).
Ability to perform extended foot patrols multiple timesduring a shift (intervals more than 30 minutes).
Ability to give pursuit of offender on foot.
Ability to reach, grasp, finger strength and manipulation tooperate firearms.
Strong or power grasps of evidence, property, suspects;tight grasp, wrist, and arm movement.
Ability to lift a minimum of 25 pounds (floor to waist,waist to floor, floor to chest); continuous transporting (pull) up to 30 lbs.
lifting of items weighing from 11 to over 100 lbs. below and at waist level,either with or without assistance; transporting (Pull) items weighing 26 50lbs.
for distances up to 50 yards without assistance; Working outdoors in allweather conditions.

Ability to react and work calmly under pressure.
24 / 7 Operation, combination of 8 hour and 12-hour shifts.
Training : As a University employee you are required to complete all University-specific and / or OSHA related training to fulfill your job duties.
Specific training will be conducted online or in person. Employees must complete all trainings required by Benedictine University.
