Role Overview :

The New York Life Investments Summer Internship Program is an exciting opportunity for rising juniors and seniors looking to gain the experience, skills, and support they need to help launch their careers.

The 10-week paid internship will take place starting June 2025. Positions are available at New York Life Investments Management and its boutique firms, Apogem Capital, and MacKay Shields.

Participants will take part in weekly intern events, such as Lunch & Learns, Meet & Greets with senior leaders, and market calls.

Our program includes training and development seminars, networking opportunities, social events, and the opportunity to be considered for a full-time analyst role.

The internship begins to develop a foundation in credit underwriting, financial analysis and portfolio management through on-the-job training and specialized projects.

Interns will work alongside one of Apogem's teams to begin to learn and understand our fast-paced, results oriented organization.

Positions are available in Finance & Accounting, Tax, and Business Intelligence.

MacKay Shields

Since 1938, MacKay Shields has partnered with clients to help meet their investment goals through high quality products and exceptional service.

We were acquired by the New York Life Insurance Company in 1984 as the foundation to its multi-boutique investment advisor model.

The model-which was designed to combine the benefits of nimble and independent investment boutiques with the strength of a financially strong partner-has been key to MacKay Shields' success.

The firm currently manages assets for institutional investors and other financial service providers across the globe. With locations in New York, California, and New Jersey, this summer MacKay Shields is offering internships on the Municipal Bond, High Yield, Fixed Income, and Marketing teams.

What You'll Do :

Depending on your placement in the program, the internship could include the following responsibilities :

  • Creating and participating in individual and / or group presentations
  • Partnering with key internal stakeholders to drive efforts across marketing, sales, business intelligence, compliance, finance, legal, etc.
  • Collaborate with investment partners on the creation of new product marketing materials in various formats, including blogs, webcasts, videos, brochures, presentations, flyers and digital representation of such materials
  • Synthesize research / analyses and develop concise and effective presentations to inform new product recommendations (PowerPoint or Word)
  • Help prioritize and drive execution and project management on new product launches or product modifications
  • Assist with the planning and overall coordination of conferences / seminars / meetings
  • Participate in operational work such as updating and maintaining databases, managing daily queues, inputting client requests, etc.
  • Conduct credit research, security analysis, industry / market research
  • Attend training and development seminars
  • Exposure to senior leadership, subject matter experts, networking opportunities, and social events

What You'll Bring :

You will bring a desire to learn more about New York Life Investments. You have strong written and oral communication skills and possess technical and analytical skills with a strong attention to detail.

You have prior internship experience, or have made significant contributions to campus or community extracurricular activities.

Required Skills :

  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degreeat an accredited 4-year university or college with an anticipated graduation date between December 2025 and June 2027
  • Business, Finance or related major preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Technical, analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail

At the end of the summer, interns will be considered for an offer to join our fulltime New York Life Investments Analyst Program upon graduation.

The analyst Program is a 2-year program rotating between various business areas.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis and interviews will begin mid-September.

Pay Transparency

Salary Range : $26 - $31 / hour

Overtime eligible : Nonexempt

Discretionary bonus eligible : No

Sales bonus eligible : No

Actual base salary will be determined based on several factors but not limited to individual's experience, skills, qualifications, and job location.

Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. In addition to base salary, employees may also be eligible to participate in an incentive program.
