You can take your own experience supporting your loved one during their reentry and apply it to helping other families who are going through similar experiences.

If you have a Bachelor's degree and 2 years of supervisory experience, we have a rigorous training program that will prepare you to supervise the reentry program of the Family Education and Resource Center (FERC), a program of the Mental Health Association of Alameda County (MHAAC).

The Mental Health Association of Alameda County (MHAAC) is a well-established non-profit organization with long term staff that assists and advocates for people with mental illness and their family members through programs including the Family Education Resource Center, the Family Partnership Program, and the Patients' Rights Advocacy Program.

Together, these programs assist thousands of people with serious mental illness and their family members every year. We envision a world without stigma where people with mental health challenges and their family members are free to live their best lives.

MHAAC's current budget is around $5 million.

The Family Education and Resource Center (FERC) is a family-centered program that provides free advocacy, support and education to family caregivers of a loved one living with a mental health condition.

We support and advocate for the family's wellbeing assuring that they are not alone in their caregiving experience. We are expanding our services to include supporting family caregivers who have a loved one living with a mental health condition and who is in the reentry transition from jail or prison back into the community .

We serve families from all regions of Alameda County and our office is located in the Pleasanton Dublin area.

What makes the FERC Reentry Program unique is that all staff members care for a loved one with a mental health condition or Serious Mental Illness (SMI) who has experienced the reentry transition.

FERC programmatic components include : a warmline; education, training, and support for family / caregivers; a resource center;

assistance with AB 1424 Historical Information forms; support for the development of family leadership; and collaboration with other MHSA funded programs.

Job Overview

The FERC Reentry Program Supervisor is responsible for providing leadership, coordination, training and support to the Family Navigator staff, for providing outreach to the reentry community, and for providing direct client support through the regular duties of a Family Navigator.

The Program Supervisor publicly promotes the FERC reentry program, provides education to family members, providers, and the general public in all aspects of the reentry process.

The program supervisor collaborates with other MHSA funded reentry programs and other community-based organizations. The Program Supervisor provides guidance to Family Navigators and helps families link to services that will support the family and their loved one reenter the community.

The Program Supervisor is a champion of reentry success and advocates for families when they feel their loved one is experiencing the stigma and discrimination that are barriers to a successful reentry journey.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee and provide reentry support for families and their reentering loved ones
  • Train newly hired Family Navigators and support them in their advocacy and support of family member clients and their reentering Loved Ones
  • Lead the Family Navigator staff in producing and providing presentations on the reentry process, community resources, mental health and SUD supports / services and family / caregiver self-care
  • Help remove obstacles to reentry through coordinating linkages, providing warm connections to services, scheduling appointments, coordinating other aspects of a family's needed supports to facilitate their Loved One's safe and successful landing in their home and community
  • Respond to outside requests for technical assistance around reentry issues by attending county and community meetings. Represent the FERC Reentry Program in advocating for reentry supports for family members / caregivers and their Loved Ones
  • Take the primary responsibility, but with support and assistance from the Office Manager and other staff, to develop / maintain the reentry resource library for the main and satellite offices.

Develop and manage information and referral resources for the program

Participate in reentry outreach : Partner with the FERC Community Engagement Manager to participate in community outreach events, partner with FERC, AAFOP and community partners (e.

g. table at health fairs, other public venues, etc.)

Required Qualifications

  • Lived experience as the primary caregiver and / or direct family member of a loved one diagnosed with a mental health condition and / or substance use condition who has reentered their community, navigated support systems and utilized reentry assistance supports
  • Minimum 2 years experience as a Supervisor
  • Bachelors Degree (additional experience may be substituted for degree requirement
  • Demonstrated excellence in service oriented communication and teamwork
  • Must successfully pass a fingerprint background check by CADOJ and FBI
  • Must be able to provide proof of full Covid 19 vaccination plus CDC and / or Alameda County recommended boosters
  • Have proficiency in Microsoft Office - Outlook (email / calendar); Word (documents); Excel (spreadsheets); and Powerpoint (presentations)
  • Have a valid CA Drivers License, daily access to a working motor vehicle, maintain legally required vehicle liability insurance and have an acceptable motor vehicle report as determined by MHAAC's insurance broker

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working as a Family Navigator in reentry support and advocacy
  • Experience navigating the Alameda County Behavioral Health Care System and crisis support services
  • Experience working with underserved and diverse communities
  • Organizational learning
  • Bilingual in one of Alameda County's threshold languages : Cantonese, Farsi, Korean, Mandarin, Spanish, Tagalog, Vietnamese

HOURS OF WORK : Mon - Fri : 9AM-5PM. May require some evening and weekend work on occasion.
