Information about this position includes the following :
PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES / POSITION RESPONSIBILITY
Assist with planning and teaching curriculum to a 2-5 year old class and pre-kindergarten children in an active preschool environment.
Develop and administer small group activities and lesson plans that are fun and include music, games, arts and crafts, basic writing, reading readiness, science, math, stories and more.
Follow minimum standards set through DFPS and follow curriculum provided by the branch. Safety is first - responsible for the safety of the children at all times, including emergency procedures as necessary.
Assist with set up and clean up of classroom on a daily basis. Must be able to communicate with children, parents, and volunteers in a positive and effective manner.
Willingly attend staff meetings and in-service training (minimum 20 hours per year). Must be able to follow the YMCA Minimum Standards in dealing with day to day operations of the preschool program.
Follow policies regarding dress code and appropriate conduct.
Candidate must be 18 years old and have a High School Diploma or GED. Individual should be able to inspire, motivate, and touch the spirit of others by words, actions, and responses.
They should be empathetic toward others and remain calm and objective when under pressure or when challenged by others. Should be very dependable and able to solicit feedback and coaching.
Candidates should be familiar with the DFPS and have a minimum of 1-2 years experience working in a licensed childcare facility.
Must have a good driving record and criminal background check clearance. Incumbent must have a strong understanding of the YMCA and its mission as well as a desire to help deliver a quality Preschool program to children 2-5 years of age.
Ability to learn and meet state licensing requirements regarding centers policies and procedures. Ability to stand for long periods of time.
Ability to adjust from sitting to standing with ease. Ability to lift and carry at least 40 lbs. A Bachelors degree or some college is preferred but not required.
