Rhode Island Energy is looking for Interns who can help us provide strong, reliable, affordable electric service to more than a million customers in Rhode Island, while adapting to new opportunities that are changing our industry.

An Intern is a temporarily employed college student in an accredited four-year institution of higher learning, who is offered a work-study program designed to give college students practical work experience in their field of study.
This program often helps students determine career interests. Beyond the scope of the actual tasks performed, the student becomes familiar with a corporate environment and gains practical skills and knowledge to supplement their classroom experience.
Responsibilities
Gain experience and exposure to practical applications within the utility industry. Individual normally works under close supervision;
performs a variety of projects that have specific instructions and expected results.
As an intern, you will be assigned to a Supervisor and / or a Coach / Mentor.
You will be assigned day-to-day tasks as well as a project that will last the duration of your assignment. The project may be a team effort or individual.
At the end of your internship, you will present to a team of company employees the results of your project and overall summary of your experience.
This position is a safety-sensitive role. Upon acceptance of a conditional offer, all individuals in safety-sensitive roles are obligated report the use of any medication that may impair their ability to perform the job in a safe manner.
Our team is the Customer Energy Integration group. When a Renewable Energy Customer is interested in interconnecting a DG project (from rooftop residential solar to large scale complex wind / hydro / solar / etc.
they submit their application to our group. We screen the application and progress the application through the process until Interconnection to the Utility.
The intern may have the opportunity to work on different tasks ranging from data reporting & analysis to customer-facing project management-type work.
Examples of work may consist of :
- Data Reporting : Updating various reports for internal and external stakeholder updates relating to DG Interconnections
- Data Analysis : Review of interconnecting projects - quality assurance to determine what data might be missing - cost sharing analysis
- Case Work & Project Management : Customer facing experience working with a DG developer to facilitate the interconnection of their DG project
- Gain exposure to internal and external stakeholders throughout the process.
CEI Intern will gain experience with connecting customer projects (solar, wind, etc.) to the utility's electric distribution system.
The candidate will have the opportunity to work with internal departments that support the process as well as external stakeholders such as the developers and the state agencies.
Qualifications
- Enrolled in a curriculum leading to a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university program in the following : Engineering, Environmental Science, Energy, Economics, or related field
- GPA requirement : 3.00 or higher
- Be a rising junior, senior or graduate student
- Eligible to work in the United States in accordance with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) regulations.
- Able to provide an official student transcript and other required information.
- Able to work in a team environment.
- Able to demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities.
- Travel within the service territory may be required.
- Possess a valid driver's license from state of residence
