Posting Summary Position Title Groundsperson / Maintenance Assistant Position Number 217 Branch Strategic Operations and Initiatives Division Facilities Operations Department Building & Grounds Job Description Will ensure proper maintenance of assigned college grounds to reflect a positive image of the college.
Will maintain an attractive, pleasant, and safe external environment at the college.
ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS :
1. Schedules and performs ground maintenance of college property such as mowing lawns, trimming shrubs and snow removal, to keep grounds hazard-free and attractive.
2. Schedules and performs landscaping duties such as planting and proper care of new and existing plants, installing and / or repairing retaining walls, edging, etc.
3. Schedules and performs proper applications of fertilizers, fungicides, pesticides, and turf chemical.
4. Repairs and maintains interiors and exteriors of buildings.
5. Inspects, repairs and maintains sprinkler systems as needed.
6. Inspects, maintains and coordinates repairs and deliveries of vehicles and equipment.
7. Performs building use set up, to include tables, chairs, and other furniture as needed.
8. Picks up litter, limbs, and debris and empties trash receptacles.
9. Coordinates contract services as necessary.
10. May assume leadership role in the absence of the Building and Grounds Manager and / or General Maintenance Worker.
11. This position is designated essential and may be called in for emergency situations, to include, but not limited to snow removal, structural failures, and natural disasters.
12. Consistently and dependably attends work, activities, and functions as scheduled or assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
1. Knowledge in the use of pesticides, fungicides, turf chemicals and fertilizers.
2. Knowledge in lawn care and landscaping.
3. Skill in using hand and power tools.
4. Manual dexterity and motor coordination skills to perform grounds maintenance.
5. Knowledge of general building maintenance.
6. Skills in operation of commercial lawn care equipment.
7. Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, climb, push, pull, reach and walk to complete assigned tasks.
8. Ability to lift in excess of 100 lbs.
9. Ability to handle extreme temperatures, harsh working conditions and long work days.
10. Knowledge and ability to utilize Microsoft Office and Timekeeping software.
11. Ability to operate light construction equipment.
12. Ability to communicate verbally, written form, voice, e-mail etc.
13. Ability to effectively work and interact with various cultures and ethnicities.
