Purpose
The Director Facilities Maintenance will have overall responsibility of the Facility Maintenance function for 8 distribution centers.
The role will be heavily involved in collaborating with the maintenance team and DC Leadership to provide strategic vision and guidance for overall facilities maintenance operations.
Will oversee building Manual Handling Equipment (MHE) and equipment maintenance, construction projects, facilities modifications, and the utilization of space to meet the requirements of organizational efficiency, expansion goals, and capital spend.
Responsibilities
Provides excellent People Leadership
Dotted line responsibility for DC based local maintenance Team Members
Optimizes our network of Distribution Centers
Develops a strategy on DC location placement to support customer base
Capex Spend Management to include developing a 3-year plan to support our customer base
Determines the impact of cold chain improvements in the DCs to include : Costs associated with cooler storage, use of TKT boxes, bulkheads, changes to staging operations, etc.
Plastic pallet purchasing
Ensures our materials handling and equipment is fully functional
- Develop a strategy for a long-term fleet modification
- Tracks equipment maintenance and usage
- Creates and manages the capital plan for MHE, battery and charger replacement
Optimizes refrigeration maintenance systems
- Develops a strategy for bringing systems up to a proper operating level
- Manages and ensures quality with outside vendors
Standardizes the look and feel of our Distribution Centers
- Improves DC break rooms, offices, lobbies and other areas so that they are best in class
- Develops a playbook for outlining standards of each
- Transforms the DCs to become a shipper of choice and what that means for our values
Proven accomplishments within a DC Environment with :
- Ability to create and drive SOP’s throughout the facility maintenance operation
- Works as a collaborative leader with other functions as needed in aligning necessary resources to support the DC’s
- Reports updates weekly to leadership
- Collecting feedback for process improvements if needed in the DC’s
- Ability to be proactive and through get things done
- Driven with positive, can-do attitude while working towards a solution
- Ability to create and sustain a Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) strategy
- Communicating to vendors to obtain quotes
About You
- Bachelors’ Degree with a focus on supply chain management, business, logistics or another related field
- 5 - 7 years of experience in facilities is required
- A minimum of 5 years in facilities leadership
- Retail and grocery experience strongly preferred
- Customer-oriented (internal and external) with exceptional interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills
- Experience developing and managing budgets with excellent financial, vendor, and contract management skills
- Knowledge of industry trends and direction
- Ability to develop innovative solutions in conjunction with using digital tools to overcome business challenges and issues
- Proven record of effecting strategic change and initiatives
- Ability to interact and work cross-functionally within a large organization
Physical Requirements
- Up to 50% travel required depending on role which may include weekends and evenings, as needed
- Required to tour Distribution Centers and may spend long periods of time standing or walking
- Most work is performed in a temperature-controlled environment
- Incumbent may sit for long periods of time at a desk or computer terminal
- Incumbent may use calculators, keyboards, telephone and other office equipment in the course of a normal workday
- Stooping, bending, twisting and reaching may be required in completion of job duties
