Position Description

Birdon America, Inc. is seeking a Class 1 Pipe Welder to join our growing team at our Bayou La Batre, Alabama shipyard. This is a great opportunity for you to provide your knowledge and skills to a growing company in building a new Coast Guard vessel.

Key Responsibilities

• Must be able to pass a 6G SMAW welding test with 90 days of employment.
• Must be able to TIG weld in all positions.
• Must be able to work in tight areas and perform field welding as required.
• Demonstrate the ability to notice improper fit up of pipe joints prior to welding.
• Demonstrate the ability to mirror weld.
• Recognize different pipe alloys and rods required.
• Know and understand proper root openings required on butt weld systems and set back requirements for socket weld systems.
• Understand and utilize purging requirements.
• Understand weld sizes and types (Convex & Concave)

Requirements / Qualifications

• 3 years of experience in the ship / boat building industry pipe welding.
• Must be able to read blueprints.
• Must be able to set up own equipment.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Must be able to stand, bend, stoop, squat or kneel regularly, as well as climb stairs and ladders and enter confined spaces to complete tasks.
