GENERAL DESCRIPTION :

The Compliance Auditor I assists with the scoping and performance of compliance reviews on internal processes and procedures to support ongoing regulatory compliance with consumer financial regulations.

TASKS, DUTIES, FUNCTIONS :

  • Leads the execution of 2nd line compliance reviews over Areas of Compliance and Controls, performing these reviews to support ongoing business line compliance with applicable regulations and provide feedback to business owners in support of ongoing compliance efforts.
  • Performs initial planning in support of compliance review scope prior to CRMS test plan input.
  • Performs detailed compliance review tasks, documents the results, and reports to management regarding the adequacy of ongoing compliance efforts.
  • Assists compliance review test plan creation.
  • Assists with the development and oversight of the first line monitoring programs, proactively identifying improvement opportunities to support ongoing compliance, monitoring testing results, and reporting results to business owners as appropriate.
  • Prepares and maintains thorough work papers in accordance with department standards.
  • Assists with the preparation of the initial draft reports summarizing compliance review findings in a clear and concise manner following department standards.
  • Assists with the performance of Compliance Issue follow-up fieldwork to confirm that 1st line management has taken action to address risks, under limited supervision.
  • Maintains a thorough understanding of state and federal laws and regulations related to credit union compliance.
  • Assists with communicating and drafting reportable issues and Compliance Review and other reports to management, under supervision.
  • Escalates any compliance concerns to Compliance Management for possible corrective action.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND EXERTION UTILIZED IN THE PERFORMANCE OF THESE TASKS :

  • Effective oral and written communication skills required to proofread, review, summarize, and report on complex government rules, regulations, and guidance.
  • Must possess sufficient manual dexterity to skillfully operate an online computer terminal and other standard office equipment, such as financial calculators, personal computer, facsimile machine, and telephone.

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTACTS & RELATIONSHIPS :

  • INTERNAL : All levels of staff.
  • EXTERNAL : Vendors, management, and the staff of other financial institutions.

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • EDUCATION : Minimum 4-year college degree preferred, or commensurate applicable work experience. Certified Internal Auditor (preferred).
  • EXPERIENCE : Minimum three years’ experience in regulatory compliance, risk, or internal audit for a financial institution including an emphasis on regulatory compliance, project management, customer service, and branch operations.

Minimum 3 years of experience that encompassed monitoring or validation of processes and procedures.

  • KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS :
  • Knowledge of compliance concepts and practices pertaining to state and federal financial and consumer protection regulations.
  • Background in regulatory compliance is required.
  • Ability to communicate (oral and written) and work well with others in a dynamic team environment.
  • Ability to work with complex risk management databases.
  • Good foundation in member service and operational processes.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively within the department and with business unit owners.
  • Strong problem-solving, credit union operations, and organizational skills with the ability to present information logically.
  • Ability to multi-task effectively and meet deadlines with supervision.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as procedures, loan and account documents, and governmental regulations.
  • Ability to positively communicate suggested solutions and alternate outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to think critically and analyze and communicate information to team and manager.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint as well as Adobe Acrobat Pro and SharePoint.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :

  • Prolonged sitting throughout the workday with occasional mobility required.
  • Corrected vision within the normal range.
  • Hearing within normal range. A device to enhance hearing will be provided if needed.
  • Ability to lift 15 lbs. as may be required.
  • Occasional movements throughout the department daily to interact with staff, accomplish tasks, etc.

LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS :

Compliance Certification (or obtained within one year of hire) required; and / or Credit Union Compliance Expert (CUCE), NAFCU’s Certified Compliance Officer (NCCO), Certified Bank Compliance Officer (CBCO), Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM).
