Overview Responsible for the overall operation of the assigned department. Conducts a variety of laboratory tests and duties according to established laboratory procedures, and in compliance with Cherokee Nation Policies and Procedures, Rural Health Guidelines and Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Clinical Laboratory Improvement, Amendments of 1988, Commission of Office Laboratory Accreditation and / or College of American Pathologists, or any other applicable rules, regulations and guidelines.
Qualifications EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT Associate's degree from a 2-year college or technical school; or two years (60 credit hours) coursework from a 4-year college or university in Medical Technology, Chemistry, Biology or Microbiology;
or three years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS An additional three (3) years experience.
COMPUTER SKILLS To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software; Internet software;
Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Must be a registered Medical Laboratory Technician with the American Society of Clinical Pathologist or American Medical Technologists or equivalent and maintain throughout employment.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS Must obtain CPR certification within six months of employment and maintain throughout the employment period.

Performs orientation and competency of staff on established scheduled. Evaluates new equipment / test and performs appropriate verification studies to ensure all applicable regulations are completed.
Writes and updates standard operating procedures and policies and submits for supervisory review and place under document control.
Assures adequate inventory is kept with cost containment in mind, so the laboratory can function without delay and with a minimum of waste.
Prepares reports in a timely fashion with information available in a concise, readable, and organized manner. Adheres to professional ethical standards.
Maintains verifiable records that are equal to or exceeds the retention policy required by federal, tribal, and or state regulations.
Promptly notifies the lab supervisor problems / issues beyond their immediate resolve. Ensures that patient's results are not reported until all corrective action has been taken and the test system is functioning properly.
Calculates and arranges quality control data in a meaningful and concise manner. Operates and maintains laboratory instruments according to established protocol.
Performs routine maintenance, calibration, and standardization on all instruments within an established time frame. Keeps accurate and up to date records of such performance and quality control checks.
Recognizes any malfunction of instruments and takes immediate corrective action to restore proper operation of the instrument.
Notifies providers when test results will be delayed. Follows and ensures staff working in department adhere to all safety policies and procedures including, but not limited to, general safety, hazardous communication, Chemical Hygiene Plan and Blood Borne Pathogens.
Other duties may be assigned. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
