Specific responsibilities for this role include :
City Support
- Oversee the planning and execution of programming intended to enable cities to improve key practices and capabilities ensuring various interdependent components work effectively in concert.
- Oversee the planning and execution of services (e.g., coaching, public narrative, 360 instrument) intended to foster leadership development among program participants.
- Manage the recruitment and acceptance of program participants and cities into city support programs and services.
- Ensure first-rate follow-up and support to participants.
- Make connections between cities and leverages Harvard resources and external partnerships to support cities.
- Lead the development and deployment of services and programming to alumni of the initiative; and
- Ensure ongoing improvement in services and support provided.
Student Support and Engagement
- Oversee the initiative’s work to develop and execute programming that expands the initiative’s impact with and through students and situates students for meaningful work and careers in city government.
- Lead efforts to drive student and faculty engagement in field-based and experiential learning (e.g., field courses, thesis work, and similar projects).
- Oversee the initiative’s fellowship programs for enrolled students.
- Ensure that participating cities take advantage of the broad network of alumni and students graduating from Harvard in hiring for full-time and / or intern positions; and
- Oversee the Initiative’s and Center’s efforts to recruit students to RA positions, graduate Fellowships, undergraduate Internships, and other initiative activities.
Bloomberg Harvard City Hall Fellowships
- Oversee the City Hall Fellowship program that places graduates of Harvard masters’ programs in two-year fellowships in municipal leadership in city halls across the United States.
- Ensure an effective training and support program for fellows; and
- Oversee city selection process.
Donor Collaboration, Alignment, and Reporting
- Align with the donor on support offerings to cities and key changes; and
- Report to donors on ongoing progress and impact.
Program Integration
- Play a leading role in ensuring that any programming is coordinated across all relevant facets of the initiative.
- Integrate initiative-wide objectives, including equity goals, into the planning, development, and execution of the City Support and Student Engagement portfolio; and
- Ensure that we learn in all we do, including building in data and processes throughout our work to capture data for process improvement and impact assessment.
Coaching and Team Advancement
- As a member of the senior leadership team, serve as a key influencer in shaping the initiative’s organizational development agenda.
- Foster and contribute to a culture of excellence grounded in learning, problem solving, and teamwork.
- Collaborate with colleagues across the initiative to identify recommendations for programmatic improvements.
