Position Summary :

At an exciting time of expansion and growth, Battery Dance seeks an extraordinary arts education leader for the position of Director of Education.

Dancing to Connect, Battery Dance’s signature arts education program, provides the opportunity for youth, with or without prior dance experience, to create and perform their own dance works centered on the issues most relevant to them.

By providing the tools of choreography to participants, the program allows individuals to learn more about themselves and those they are creating with, while improving leadership, teamwork skills, and confidence in becoming agents of change.

The Director of Education will envision the next stage for Dancing to Connect, with the goal of deepening and widening impact, and integrating it with Battery Dance’s other offerings so that the program serves as an entry point to a sustained experience in the arts and social justice.

Battery Dance envisions a time when the universal expression of dance will ignite a movement across geographic, social and cultural boundaries to improve people's quality of life.

Since 1976, the company has impacted over 300,000 public school students, and currently provides dance education for thirteen New York public schools, both in-school and after-school, to K-12 students of all abilities.

Concurrently, Battery Dance has launched an innovative teacher-training program in three area colleges, training their dance students in the Dancing to Connect methodology, and has expanded its work to senior centers in the city.
