Custodians provide a clean and safe learning and working environment for students, staff, and university guests by responding to the daily cleaning needs of the Lory Student Center facilities with a focus on sustainability and customer services.
Although positions follow established work processes, they have the authority to determine the procedures required to accomplish the work.
Custodians use judgment on an ongoing basis to select the most appropriate technical guidelines and adapt them to develop work procedures that accomplish tasks.
This position will work the overnight shift Saturday & Sunday from 3 : 30 pm 12 : 00 midnight AND Monday Wednesday from 4 : 30 pm to 1 : 00 am. Required Job Qualifications
Six months of custodial experience appropriate to the job assignment.

Essential Duties Job Duty Category General Custodial Duty / Responsibility
- Keeps office, learning and dining environments clean and safe using green practices : environmentally safe chemicals, water conservation, recycling, conserving energy by turning off lights, etc.
- Cleaning and / or disinfecting is performed for showers, toilets, walls, sinks, drains, vents, trash receptacles, ceilings, floors, mirrors, vanities, windows, appliances, furnishings and all hand hold surfaces.
- Provides clean up for blood borne pathogen situations not handled by EHS.
- Clean hall and room carpet in office, learning and dining environments by vacuuming and shampooing. Clean hard surface floors by sweeping, mopping, buffing, stripping and refinishing.
- Cleans around outside of building by picking up trash, sweeping, removing gum, washing sidewalks and snow / ice removal.
May provide building opening and lock up procedures.
- Dispose of trash / recyclables from internal / external receptacles.
- Use Personal Protective Equipment and safety procedures for the above tasks.

- Learn, apply and demonstrate how to enter office space with an awareness / enforcement of privacy and discretion for tenants.
- Developing awareness / enforcement of student / guest behavior expectations, identifying red flags such as alcohol, drugs, fire alarms, unhealthy conditions, etc.
- Remind the guests and tenants of Lory Student Center of personal safety (locking doors and windows, un propping EXIT doors at the close of business, etc.)
- Have appropriate social interactions with tenants and guests and be aware of their personal space, using appropriate communication and providing programmatic support.
- Clean up after construction projects.
- Provides support and assistance to services such as Catering, Building Manager and Setup.
- Use Personal Protective Equipment and safety procedures for the above tasks.
Percentage Of Time 20 Job Duty Category Continuous Maintenance Duty / Responsibility
- Performs minor maintenance including but not limited to replacing lamps, carpet trimming and drain cleaning.
- The ability to assist and shadow maintenance staff.
- Inspects and services Environmental Services equipment and machinery.
- Check fire extinguishers and lights.
- Use Personal Protective Equipment and safety procedures for the above tasks.
Percentage Of Time 10 Job Duty Category Meeting Attendance and Other Duties Duty / Responsibility
- Attend all required / recommended training / classes / seminars provided by Lory Student Center Operations to accomplish the above, which include ethics, safety, diversity, communications, BBP and any applicable training in providing the best customer service, etc.
- Develop professional skills and communication to effectively interact with students, tenants and guests.
- Attend all meetings, committees and department sponsored functions.
- Enter work time and leave requests into designated software systems.
- Comply with Lory Student Center Operations Handbook, University Departmental Procedures and Policies.
