As we continue to expand our network, we are seeking a skilled and dedicated Field Engineer to join our dynamic team.
Responsibilities
Ensure all field work complies with permit requirements by understanding the City, County and State requirements as well as any long lead permit requirements that may apply (e.
g., railroad, NFS, Environmental, or Wetlands).
- Deliver detailed field notes and photographs (where needed) to the engineering team.
- Identify and validate constructability in aerial or underground environments, including :
- All required facilities, including side of road, cables, poles, terminals, pedestals, handholes, and other Outside Plant (OSP) infrastructure.
- Capture accurate measurements of attachment heights (if aerial design), utility structures, and tie down distances from existing / proposed Outside Plant (OSP) facilities to centerlines, property lines, and edge of pavement and back of curb lines.
- If aerial design, identify power and communication facilities on utility poles and record bonding, grounding, guying, and anchor information.
- Identify any obstructions to fiber placement and provide an alternate path to engineering.
- Provide schedule and project database updates, regularly reporting to the project manager to keep them informed of job progress, plans, and any issues that could significantly affect costs or schedules.
- Manage compliance with quality control and quality assurance standards and specifications.
- Ensure adherence to health and safety regulations at all times.
- Perform equipment, material, and routine site inspections.
- Attend regular meetings with vendors, managers, and staff.
Qualifications :
- Education : Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field preferred.
- Experience : Minimum of 2 years of experience in field engineering, preferably in the telecommunications industry with a focus on fiber optics.
- Technical Skills : Proficient in the installation and maintenance of fiber optic networks, including knowledge of splicing, testing, and troubleshooting techniques.
- Certifications : Relevant certifications such as FOA CFOT (Certified Fiber Optic Technician) or equivalent are highly desirable.
- Problem-Solving : Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues efficiently.
- Communication : Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with customers and team members.
- Physical Requirements : Ability to work in various environments, including outdoor and confined spaces, and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Travel : Willingness to travel to different sites as required.
- Experience fielding and engineering road moves is highly desired.
- Knowledge of aerial, buried, and underground fiber facilities.
- Understanding of OSP construction techniques.
Ability to read and understand digital GIS maps, conduit records, and layout drawings.
Hourly rate : $23 - 28 / hr
