Job Title : Medical Laboratory Scientist
Job Description
As a Medical Laboratory Scientist, you will be responsible for determining the acceptability of specimens for testing, performing routine and complex technical procedures, and ensuring the proper functionality of laboratory instrumentation.
You will play a crucial role in delivering quality patient care by reporting accurate and timely test results and maintaining a safe work environment.
Responsibilities
- Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria.
- Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures.
- Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality.
- Make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving.
- Prepare, test, and evaluate new reagents or controls.
- Report accurate and timely test results to deliver quality patient care.
- Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures.
- Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary.
- Assist with processing of specimens when needed.
- Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
Essential Skills
- ASCP certification
- Experience in medical laboratory settings
- Proficiency in using laboratory instrumentation
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment
- High attention to detail
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to pass a standardized color vision screen
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology, or meet local regulatory (CLIA & State) requirements
- Previous experience as a Medical Technologist / Technician is highly preferred
- Proficient with computers; familiarity with laboratory information systems is a plus
- Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs
Work Environment
The work environment includes multiple locations and shifts. For example, the Spokane Valley location offers a full-time position, Monday through Friday, from 8 AM to 5 PM.
The role requires maintaining a safe work environment and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment.
