The Principal Charity Classic is accepting applications for the 2025 Tournament Intern program. This internship provides a unique opportunity to work as part of a team in a dynamic and fast-paced environment while gaining experience in a range of event management tasks.
The Principal Charity Classic will be held May 27 - June 1, 2025 and is managed by Eventive Sports Properties, a nationwide sports management company based in Birmingham, AL.
About the Principal Charity Classic.
The Principal Charity Classic (PCC) is an annual PGA TOUR Champions event held at Wakonda Club in Des Moines, IA. The event attracts over 50,000 spectators, requires over 1,200 volunteers and partners with 250+ corporate sponsors.
The event is televised internationally on the GOLF Channel and is one of the biggest sporting events in the state of Iowa.
Since 2007, the tournament has contributed over $62 million in support of Iowa youth programs. Principal Charity Classic interns will work alongside full-time staff on many aspects of the event.
The ideal candidate will possess strong written and oral communication skills, the ability to work independently on multiple projects, and a willingness to go above and beyond for tournament stakeholders.
Interns will be asked to take ownership of key projects and will gain strong professional experience. This internship is an excellent opportunity for individuals who are interested in pursuing a career in sports management, marketing, communications, event management, or related field.
The Role :
The Marketing / Social Media Intern will support staff members with :
Social Media Planning - Interns to assist in developing and executing a social media plan for the tournament with postings leading up to and during tournament week.
This will also include interaction with the PGA TOUR Champions staff to involve players in event promotion.
- Content Creation - Interns assist in creating planned content. This can include digital, printed, and in-person projects.
- Tournament Promotion - Work with tournament staff and media partners to pitch tournament related story lines and ideas to increase coverage of the PCC leading up to and during tournament week.
- Event support - Assist in planning and execution of various events - including but not limited to, sponsorship prospect events, community engagement events, volunteer appreciation, and tournament week events, such as junior clinic, pro-ams, and other events as they arise.
- Intern Team Projects - Interns will also assist staff on various projects leading up to tournament week. Projects include, but are not limited to, access credential management, client services, honorary observers, preparing mass mailings, moving to & from tournament headquarters, etc.
- Requirements :
- HS Diploma (required)
- Must be 18+ yrs.
- Valid DL
- Detail-oriented, able to handle multiple projects,
- Flexibility, punctuality, and willingness to work evenings, long hours, and weekends
- Experience in photography and graphic design is preferred

Application information :
- Internship timeframe : March - June 2025 (flexible depending on availability)
- Hours : starting at 10-20 hours per week, then increased hours immediately leading up to and during tournament week. Must be able to work extended and irregular hours including nights and weekends as event approaches and during event.
Most work hours will be in a typical office environment at Principal Charity Classic's office. Working outside and on-site during event should be expected.
