Maintenance Mechanic I

Position Summary

Performs maintenance and repair of building facilities. Must perform tasks that span many trades, including, but not limited to : electrical, mechanical, painting, and plumbing.

Must be willing to work overtime as the requirement may rise. Is subject to being recalled to the campus for after hours work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Independently determines the need and performs basic repairs, service and related work on mechanical, plumbing and electrical equipment.

Performs scheduled and unscheduled preventive maintenance and adjustments of selected equipment and fixtures as well as operational testing and verification to specific standards.

Performs building maintenance tasks, applying an understanding of the University needs as well as the operational and safety limitations of building systems and equipment.

Uses various hand and yard tools & equipment to perform assigned tasks. Tests equipment periodically to analyze, evaluate and correct malfunctions with various systems, devices and / or instruments.

Completes work orders, equipment logs and other documentation Maintains the work area in a neat, efficient and safe condition by cleaning up after each job and properly storing items and / or test equipment.

Exhibits an awareness of safety requirements and practices in everyday tasks.

Other duties as assigned. Education, Certifications and / or Licenses License (position requirements at entry) : Must have a valid Texas Drivers license.

Experience Training and Experience High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or related experience and / or training;

or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge (position requirements at entry) : Knowledge of : · Demonstrated knowledge of desktop computers and current software programs.

Knowledge of multi-line phone system

Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs.

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
