How your work would contribute to our organization and the Twin Cities region :

The Supervisor, Public Facilities Maintenance position will supervise a group of maintenance technicians (approximately 20-30) and oversee maintenance-related expenditures for all of Metro Transit's public facilities within the seven-county metropolitan area in a timely and cost-efficient manner.

Public Facilities include all bus, light rail, and commuter rail facilities through which the public may pass. The qualified supervisor will exercise management responsibilities for the proper maintenance of public buildings, oversee purchasing of materials and labor, and supervise deployment of personnel as appropriate to maintain our public facilities.

Please note : this is a weekend day shift position, working Friday through Monday from 6 : 00 AM to 4 : 00 PM.

This position will establish a six (6) month eligibility pool for current and future openings. This position has multiple openings and will remain open until all positions are filled.

What you would do in this job

  • Supervise and provide work direction to ATU Facility Maintenance staff working with varied duties.
  • Coordinate and manage the testing, operation, maintenance, repair, and modification of equipment and supplies used for the maintenance of all facilities that fall within the responsibilities of this position.

Plan and budget additional and / or replacement equipment and vehicles.

Communicate within the department, outside the department, outside the company with contractors and vendors (etc.), regarding facility operations and maintenance of facilities.

Maintain close working relationships with other governmental agencies (e.g., City, County, and State) and private developers or contractors with respect to maintenance and repair of facilities.

Provide a program to keep accurate records of all existing facilities, including records on materials and labor covered by warranty.

Review the results regularly to make modifications in work as needed.

  • Monitor and submit reports of labor and materials used to repair facilities changed by accidents or vandalism as requested by local and transit authorities or the Risk Management Department.
  • Coordinate the purchase of goods and contracted services with the Purchasing Department through the complete procurement process.

Investigate new technical equipment before purchasing products and / or contracting services.

Work with Facilities personnel to analyze, prioritize, and resolve operational issues, customer and staff complaints, and maintenance issues in the most effective manner.

Monitor all maintenance projects for all Public Facilities including parking ramps, rail stations, transit centers, and bus shelters.

Schedule or coordinate the scheduling of those activities as appropriate.

  • Ensures the timely installation of current shelters schedules, route destination signage, and ride alerts and park-ride signs / posters as requested.
  • Areas of responsibilities will overlap but may be assigned to Rail or Bus Maintenance as your primary responsibility.
  • Performs related work as apparent or assigned.

What education and experience are required for this job (minimum qualifications)

A high school diploma or GED AND eight (8) years of experience in industrial cleaning and facility maintenance AND one (1) year of supervisory, project management or proven leadership experience.

An associate degree or technical two-year certification in industrial cleaning, facility maintenance or related field AND six (6) years of experience in industrial cleaning and facility maintenance AND one (1) year of supervisory, project management or proven leadership experience.

A bachelor's degree in Facility Maintenance or related field AND four (4) years of experience in industrial cleaning and facility maintenance AND one (1) year of supervisory, project management or proven leadership experience.

License Requirements :

Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.

What additional skills and experience would be helpful in this job (desired qualifications) :

  • Experience in monitoring a large database for tracking commercial vehicle fleet or commercial machinery.
  • Experience in multiple site environments with multi-site responsibilities.
  • Experience in a union environment as a lead or supervisor.
  • Experience in an industrial environment.
  • A boiler's license.
  • Establishing and manage a department operating budget.
  • Establishing variable work schedules for employees.
  • Experience in cleaning in an indoor and outdoor environment.

What knowledge, skills and abilities you should have :

  • Knowledge of ATU 1005 union contractual requirement.
  • Knowledge of or familiarity with boiler and generator operations.
  • Knowledge of facilities maintenance systems / operations including HVAC, electrical systems, plumbing, building automation systems, etc.
  • Knowledge of or familiarity with snow removal best practices, products, equipment and operation.
  • Knowledge of or familiarity with irrigation and landscaping systems, practices, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of laws and ordinances regarding maintenance safety and accident prevention.
  • Knowledge of computer operation and software applications; basic word processing and Windows operating system.
  • Computer skills using TXbase and maintaining large databases.
  • Skilled in problem analysis and problem resolution.
  • Ability to manage contracts, including creating scope of work for the foundation of the contract.
  • Ability to perform basic troubleshooting for mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing issues.
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities or priorities simultaneously.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, financial reports, legal documents, journals, procedure manuals, construction plans, specifications, schematics, and diagrams.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or clients providing direction and supervision to a large widely dispersed group of independently operating workers.
  • Ability to be highly organized and detail oriented.

What your work environment would be :

Exposed to extreme outdoor weather conditions. Requires conducting field inspections and off-site duties as required. Confined space entry at industry and various facilities is required.

Position has exposure to working near moving parts, fumes airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions and vibration. Some positions may require travel between primary work site to other sites.

Position may require lifting to 25 pounds.
