Position Summary :

The Assistant Community School Director is responsible for assisting the Community School Director in the oversight / management and direct supervision of all activities, programs, services and supports implemented within the Whitney Young Campus.

He / she will also supervise specific programs and initiatives such as parent engagement, attendance improvement and staff supervision.

As an employee of Children’s Aid, the Assistant Community School Director reports directly to the Community School Director.

Essential Duties :

  • Assist the Community School Director with the supervision and management of Attendance Improvement, College and Career transition programming, Family Engagement, Health and Wellness.
  • Develop, maintain and nurture relationships within Drew Campus’ two school administrations.
  • Represent Children’s Aid in community meetings, SLT, PTA, monthly school assemblies and Town Halls.
  • Assist in the management, professional development, supervision and evaluation of full and part time staff.
  • Support the Community School Director in developing and implementing performance management systems to effectively analyze, assess and evaluate the impact of all Children’s Aid services and supports.
  • Assist in the oversight and management of all Collaborative partnership programs (health, dental, mental health, specialty services and projects) to ensure that they are carried out with fidelity.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of parent / family events and programs that support parent voice and empowerment.
  • Develop systems that effectively inform students, families, staff and partners regarding community school initiatives.
  • Contribute to ensuring that all administrative and fiscal matters conform to agency policies and guidelines.
  • In the absence of the Community School Director, support and oversee the management of all programs and activities in the Community School.
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability and willingness to work collaboratively with colleagues and partners.
  • A thorough understanding of youth development principles and practice.
  • A history of service to under-resourced communities.
  • Professionalism, sound judgment foresight and maturity.
  • An entrepreneurial spirit which embraces creativity and hard work inherent in a start-up.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree in Social Work, Education or related field preferred
  • 3-5 years of experience working with young people (in-school and / or out-of-school settings)
  • Exceptional leadership skills and communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • 3-5 years of supervisory experience
  • Commitment to professional development
  • A demonstrated goal-orientation and focus on outcomes and results
  • A demonstrated ability to effectively work with students who have been traditionally under-served including English Language Learners, youth with special needs, youth who have been or are currently involved in the court or child welfare systems, youth living below self-sufficiency, and youth from single parent households
