The general salary range for this position is $75,000 - 90,000. Salary offers will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, skills, training and education.
The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the nation’s most effective animal advocacy organization, is seeking a Senior Editor for the Story and Video department.
In this position you will write and edit publications that will increase audience numbers and maximize engagement of the content.
Leads editorial meetings, determines daily priorities, allocates resources, and oversees the editorial process.
Responsibilities :
- Writes and edits publications, with detailed attention to accuracy, flow, and continuity;
- Plans, resources, edits, and produces high-quality custom projects;
- Provides hands-on editorial direction on all content published to ensure high standards are met;
- Works with other members of the Creative department to develop new methods / approaches to telling the organization’s stories on existing platforms, including print, web, video, podcast, and social media, etc.;
- Maintains workflows and deadlines for effective and efficient delivery of content;
- Crafts new editorial topics to resonate with the organization’s internal and external audiences;
- Manages a high-volume list of content while simultaneously ensuring projects meet the organization’s high standards;
- Uses analytics to track the performance of publications to determine their effectiveness and to plan for future content;
- Verifies accuracy of information, data, and claims;
- Proofreads editorial content for grammar, spelling, and punctuation;
- Performs other duties or responsibilities, as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements :
- High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree in Creative Writing, Journalism, English or a related area of study, or equivalent work experience, a plus;
- A minimum of four (4) years of journalism experience required;
- Comfortable in a fast-paced environment with frequent deadlines; high energy, self-motivated and proactive;
- Ability to multitask and be flexible with workload and assignments;
- Ability to exercise sound judgment;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Attention to detail and commitment to excellence demonstrated by the delivery of quality and timely outcomes;
- Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook);
- Ability to work both independently and as an effective team member in a team environment;
- Strong interest in animal protection issues, a plus.
