Description
The Sr. Data Scientist designs and implements state of the art deep neural networks to solve challenging problems in the railroad industry using machine learning, computer vision, and data modeling.
This is a hybrid role with remote days of Monday and Friday and in-office days of Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. Some weeks may have more in office days depending on needs of business.
1. Thought Leadership and System Ownership (45%)
- Provides technical leadership in the selection, scoping and execution of AI projects
- Directs the project management of one or more AI projects through Pilot phases
- Maintains a good working knowledge of the offerings of major AI vendors
- Assesses technical feasibility and optimization of AI to achieve commercial viability for both cost and performance of algorithms
- Conducts mentoring and knowledge transfer activities (e.g., Lunch n Learn, tech briefings on trends) to data science team and Technical Leadership Team
- Analysis and Strategy (30%)
- Leads a small team of AI scientists in solving AI problems, and advancing AI techniques, science and research agendas of the AI Lab in one or more areas;
- Leads and drives architecting and coding of AI algorithms, Machine Learning architectures and pipelines, for building ML / DL capabilities delivered in an AI platform including training, evaluation and management of AI models;
- Communicate results and ideas to key decision makers in a way that can be easily understood by business counterparts.
- Design and build new data set processes for modeling, data mining, and production purposes.
- Develop and productionize working prototypes, proof of concepts, algorithms, predictive models, and custom analysis.
- Models and analyzes complex problems, discovering insights and identifying opportunities through the use of statistical, algorithmic, mining and visualization techniques.
- Collaborate with product management and engineering departments to understand company needs and devise possible solutions
- Develop strategies around data cleaning, data structure, and data tagging
- Research, Development, Learning (25%)
- Keep up-to-date with latest technology trends
- Actively engages with the AI community and the broader academic community
- Work with leadership to optimize and improve the existing AI systems; Continuously strive to improve the accuracy and performance
- Mentoring junior members of the team
- Determine new innovative ways to improve data and search quality, and predictive capabilities
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in developing, crafting or using any deep learning frameworks
- MS or PhD (preferred) in Computer Science, Mathematics, or Statistics with related experience
- Python programming; Other languages, such as R, preferred
- SQL scripting and database knowledge
- Proficiency in computer vision, image / video / signal processing, machine learning, feature extraction, statistical analysis, and classification.
- Solid technical foundation in CPU and GPU architectures, networking, numeric libraries, modular software design
- Initiative, proactive thinking, problem and situational analysis, results oriented
- Familiarity with commercial production of research and modeling
