3rd Street Youth Center & Clinic is a community-based agency providing youth in the Bayview Hunters Point with medical and behavioral health services that encourage them to make decisions that support their health, safety, and development.
The Health Education Specialist works closely with the Director of Health & Youth Development to facilitate and build our Health Core Fellowship Program.
This position is responsible for creating engaging curriculum, delivering said curriculum to program participants, facilitating group workshops and trainings, recruiting youth from underserved populations, providing casework services, building up Health Core's accompanying mentorship program and post-program job support, being the main contact for both the clinical sites and the intern, and providing direct guidance and support to program fellows and interns.
Duties & Responsibilities :
- Provide casework services to high-risk youth in program
- Provide appropriate resources, referrals, and other supports including but not limited to academic support
- Deliver educational content (teach) soley to a group of 15 youth on a weekly basis
- Case coordination and advocacy, including maintaining great communication and coordination with other 3rd Street departments and teams
- Collect program data, maintain excellent recordkeeping and provide data to the Assistant Director of Health & Youth Development upon request
- Co-manage and develop our Health Core Educational Fellowship, a pipeline program for young adults interested in health careers
- Provide engaging workshops and trainings to youth on a wide range of topics related to health, health careers, professional development, and college success.
- Continually update and deliver (teach) core curriculum for the Health Core Educational Fellowship program
- Recruit program participants that come from a historically marginalized background and provide case management throughout their engagement with 3rd Street
- Develop, curate and support the mentorship program for Health Core
- Support with other related responsibilities as needed per the Director of Health & Youth Development
- Maintain high professional standards of performance, demeanor, attendance and appearance at all times
- Clock in and out properly (on time daily)
- Reply to emails within a timely manner (within one business day)
- Perform tasks and responsibilities in a complete and timely manner
- Maintain a creative, team-building, cooperative approach to job performance and seek to bring a constructive, problem-solving orientation to all tasks

- Attend community events for outreach purposes multiple times a year, including weekends occasionally.
Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Have a background in either Public Health, Medical Assisting, Nursing, or another Education-based medical occupation.
- Ability to educate youth (teach) about various medical topics
- Ability to work with high-risk youth and with diverse staff, clients, and volunteers
- Ability to maintain a professional demeanor with great interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to foster relationships with various new and current community partners
- Ability to multi-task with the capacity to learn quickly and integrate efficiently
- Ability to build healthy relationships with youth while upholding appropriate boundaries
- Ability to connect with our youth
- Ability to work with a diverse staff and excel in a diverse, youth-serving environment

Education & Experience :
- Bachelor's Degree in health education, biology, chemistry, public health- a focus on anatomy a plus
- 2-3 years experience working with diverse groups of youth, including youth considered high risk and experiencing homelessness
- Experience in workforce development with youth or young adults
- Working knowledge of issues facing youth

- This position is a non-exempt and full-time role.
- This position is based in our San Francisco office in the Bayview / Hunter's Point neighborhood.
Compensation and benefits :
- This position has a starting annual salary of $75,000 and commensurate with experience.
