POSITION SUMMARY
The purpose of this role is to provide strength and conditioning support to targeted athletes. The successful candidate will demonstrate coaching ability, technical knowledge in areas related to strength and conditioning, capacity to develop sport specific knowledge, the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, willingness to learn, and a passion for high performance sport every day to support performance enhancement and help athletes and coaches to thrive.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Service Delivery
- Deliver education sessions to athletes and coaches in strength and conditioning
- Develop and deliver strength and conditioning support in the daily training environment
- Implement a thorough monitoring, tracking and testing process to ensure athletes are making desired progress
- Deliver testing at CSIO or in the field, including data entry and reporting of results
- Collaborate as part of an Integrated Support Team, communicating effectively with coaches and other IST members to provide an integrated approach to optimizing / enhancing athlete health and performance
- Facility supervision during athlete and team training sessions, including open training hours as required
Company
- Support the general operation of a safe and inclusive high performance training facility, including opening and closing of the facility
- Ensure all athletes accessing CSIO facilities are registered and in good standing with CSIO
- Maintain an accurate record of work conducted
- Be an active member of the organization by participating in relevant staff meetings as required
- Ensure that time is appropriately managed within pre-agreed hours
- Be a Professional or HP Certified member in good standing with Sport Scientist Canada
- Adhere to any professional codes of conduct appropriate to your profession or other codes of conduct that might be deemed applicable to sports science and sports medicine practitioners in general
- Actively participate in formal feedback processes with a growth mindset
- Where appropriate, present at workshops, lectures, and seminars as required and agreed upon
- Undertake any other reasonable duties as directed
WORKING CONDITIONS / SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- This role is required to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, plus being on-call for emergencies for time-sensitive and priority issues
- This role may be required to travel
- This role must provide their own transportation to / from the service delivery location. An Ontario G Class Driver’s license is beneficial
- Must be eligible to work in Canada
- This role must meet and maintain all Safe Sport, Anti-Doping, and other relevant HR requirements. Where appropriate, this role must maintain the necessary certifications (including First Aid CPR and AED) and liability insurance deemed necessary for employment by HR.

- Relevant NSO and PSO integrated support teams, technical leads, coaches, and athletes engaged with service delivery at the CSIO Regional Training Centre Niagara laboratory testing, data solutions, or sport science service delivery
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Qualifications :
- Bachelor’s Degree in Strength and Conditioning, Kinesiology, Exercise Physiology, Biomechanics, or a related field (graduate degree preferred)
- Certified or Accredited Strength and Conditioning Coach by the NSCA (CSCS) or CSCA (CSCP)
- CPR and AED certified
- Olympic Weightlifting certification is an asset
- CSEP Clinical Exercise Physiologist certification (CSEP-CEP) is an asset
- ISAK certification is an asset
- Attained or able to work towards Sport Science Canada High Performance Certification
Experience, Skills and Knowledge :
- Minimum of 2 years (+ hours) working in a performance sport setting
- Demonstrated coaching experience, including experience coaching youth athletes
- Previous experience working with S&C technologies (VBT, Force Plates, etc.) and S&C software (Teambuildr, Bridge, etc.) is an asset.
- Strong theoretical and applied knowledge of the core principles of strength and conditioning as it relates to athlete performance
- Strong technical knowledge and ability to teach and demonstrate various exercise techniques, sprint running mechanics, plyometrics, and agility drills
- Strong data handling and management skills
- Familiarity with the Canadian Sport System is an asset

- Excellent problem-solving skills under pressure
- Collaborative teamwork and strong communication skills are essential
- Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate complex processes clearly and concisely
- Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively (e.g., equipment servicing, service delivery, data management, data reporting, scheduling)
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with various teams, staff members, and external partners
