We are seeking a Director of Finance based in the northwest suburbs of Illinois. The individual will be instrumental in leading and managing the Finance, Accounting, and Grant Writing functions of our organization.
This role involves strategic planning, operational initiatives and supervising the financial team.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the Financial, Accounting, and Grant Writing functions, including staff supervision and strategic planning
- Collaborate with the Senior Leadership Team to support organization's pillars and functions
- Ensure accurate and timely presentation of financial reports and statements
- Oversee the review of legal contracts with vendors and contractors
- Implement and manage internal checks and control procedures
- Maintain and update finance and accounting policies and procedures as necessary
- Work transparently with external partners including grantors, funders, contractors, and third-party vendors
- Oversee the annual operating and capital planning process
- Collaborate with the Financial Controller to manage organizational cash flow and forecasting
- Ensure the accuracy of recording information in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles
- Review contracts with vendors, partners, and agencies to ensure the best interest of the organization
- Oversee and manage the grant writing function including applications, submission, tracking, and reporting
- Work collaboratively with staff members to accomplish strategic and operational objectives related to Finance, Accounting, and Grant Writing functions
- Position requires a minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in the finance or accounting sector
- Candidates must be proficient in 3M, Accounting Software Systems, ADP - Financial Services, Concur, CRM
- Expertise in Accounting Functions, Accounts Payable (AP), Annual Budget, Auditing, Budget Processes, Finance, Accounting cycle, Grant Accounting is essential
- Demonstrated experience in managing and directing the finance function of an organization, including strategic planning, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
- Proven ability to direct and oversee financial audits and manage relationships with external auditors
- Strong knowledge of financial regulations and accounting processes
- Excellent leadership, strategic planning, and team management skills
- Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively present financial information to non-financial stakeholders
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field is required, an advanced degree or certification such as CPA or CFA is preferred.
