Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit :
The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy (www.pharmacy.unc.edu) is one of six health science schools (Pharmacy, Nursing, Dentistry, Social Work, Public Health, Medicine) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is one of the oldest health science academic programs at Chapel Hill.

The Office of External Affairs (which includes the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy Foundation and the Pharmacy Alumni Association) plays a critical role in advancing the mission and vision of the pharmacy school. Our focus includes :
- Development personalizing the giving experience to drive philanthropic investment to support the pharmacy school’s strategic priorities.
- Alumni creating authentic engagement opportunities for our nearly 9,000 alumni across all degree programs (BS in Pharmacy, PharmD, MS and PhD)

Reporting to the Vice President of Development, the PharmD Program Director of Development (the Director) is a core member of the development team and responsible for developing authentic relationships with alumni, friends, and corporate and foundation funding partners.
Chief responsibilities include the identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of a portfolio of 75-100 major giving donors ($100,000+) in support of the PharmD professional program.
This position will drive the School’s strategic priority to double its annual scholarship dollars to $3 million and cultivate support for the PharmD program in the University’s next campaign.
Once fully established in the role, the Director will carry an annual revenue goal of $2 million or more.
With 75% of pharmacy alumni living in North Carolina, the Director will focus primarily on in-state travel and is expected to maintain a robust schedule of donor visits.
The Director will leverage volunteers and School leadership to provide meaningful engagement with donors, from cultivation to stewardship.
In addition, the Director of Development is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with corporate and foundation funding partners and writing funding proposals in support of scholarships and / or other programs that support the PharmD educational experience.
Areas of philanthropic focus within the PharmD program will include scholarships, rural pharmacy health, the Business of Health Care, and student organizations and their alumni.
The Director will develop relationships with PharmD leadership, faculty, and students in these areas to understand and advance funding opportunities.
The successful candidate will be an experienced relationship-focused fundraiser who leverages our CRM (both entering and querying data) and volunteers, leadership, and campus partners to cultivate and close major gifts.
Strong interpersonal and written communication skills are necessary, and we seek team members who use their unique experiences and rich culture to raise critical resources for our students and faculty.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements :
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree required (or foreign degree equivalent) with related experience. For positions with responsibility for direct solicitation of gifts and funds, a minimum of 1 year of professional-level, direct solicitation / fundraising experience is required.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience :
Five or more years of successful fundraising, marketing, or related experience is preferred. Successful track record or comparable experience in cultivating donors, soliciting and closing gifts of $100,000 and above with preference given to candidates with a background in higher education or health related fields.
