Job Summary
The electrical designer is responsible for design work relating to electrical control panels, power distribution panels, and other electrical controls products.
This person will utilize various applications to create shop drawings, electrical schematics, and bills of material. The focus of this role is on custom control panels with unique requirements being driven by customer needs.
The electrical designer is responsible for identifying suitability rated components, determining the proper wiring for components, and determining best-practice mounting methods.
This role also includes some level of mechanical aptitude to spec custom enclosures and mounting brackets. Job Description Duties and responsibilities :
- Develop wiring schematics for electrical panels.
- Determine and create drawings detailing component layout and mounting positions.
- Create bills of material (BOMs), product descriptions, and labels for electrical panels.
- Identify suitable components based on ratings, dimensions, and other factors.
- Review customer requirements and propose possible solutions.
- Review and understand component datasheets and manuals.
- Work with manufacturing employees to understand drawings and answer questions.
- Design simple mechanical mounting brackets and fixtures.
- Develop programming routines for logic controllers (PLCs) / temperature controllers.
- Assist sales and application engineering with answering customer questions and solving issues.
- Assist with product compliance reviews and agency certifications.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by manager.
Preferred Skills :
- UL 508A Training / Certification
- Experience with SolidWorks CAD software
- Experience with SolidWorks Electrical
- Experience with Microsoft Visio
- Experience with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC)
- Experience with PID Temperature Controllers
Needed experience & technical knowledge :
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
- Strong working knowledge of high-voltage circuitry, including both single and three-phase applications.
- 3+ years of experience working with electrical panels and wiring.
- Ability to work with little supervision.
- Strong work ethic and a desire for excellence.
- Demonstrated ability to work with others in a dynamic environment.
