Payroll and Human Resources Specialist

Northwoods Credit Union, of Cloquet, MN is seeking an experienced candidate to fill the position of Payroll and Human Resources Specialist.

This full time, nonexempt position offers a typical schedule of 8 : 30 a.m. to 5 : 00 p.m., Monday - Friday with a comprehensive benefits package, and a starting hourly pay range between $22.

82 - $25.36, based on experience.

Qualified candidates will come equipped with the skills required to assist the Human Resources Administrator with all functions within the Department.

Primary duties will include payroll processing while ensuring compliance with federal, state and local regulations, employee benefits administration, recordkeeping, billing, and vendor management.

Additional roles include administration of the employee recognition program, training program, and assisting in recruitment, onboarding and other HR related activities and events.

Position Duties and Responsibilities

  • Uphold the credit union's Mission, Vision, and Values.
  • Manage and process all phases of payroll, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Administer employee benefits, including deductions, premiums, and billing.
  • Reconcile payroll, tax, and benefit accounts, and process tax filings.
  • Maintain and update payroll, benefit, and employee records.
  • Support employee recognition and training programs.
  • Assist in recruitment, onboarding, and staff events.
  • Answer inquiries related to employment, benefits, payroll, and HR topics.
  • Maintain organized records and files.
  • Assist in all functions of the Human Resources department as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Minimum three years of experience in Payroll, Accounting, Human Resources, or related field, with at least two years in payroll processing.

Required Skills

  • Working knowledge of local, state, and federal payroll and wage laws with the ability to become familiar with employment and labor laws.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to maintain composure in high-pressure situations.
  • Intermediate accounting skills required with proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
  • Thorough knowledge in payroll processing procedures with familiarity in HRIS / Benefits platforms.
  • Ability to professionally handle confidential data.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to utilizing resources and troubleshooting processes.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet established deadlines.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
