Job Summary

This position will manage several applied research and evaluation projects. The primary responsibilities of the position will be to formulate program strategies and goals, including planning program budget and other related resources, and creating policy and programmatic recommendations.

This will involve strategizing and directing activities and timelines internally and with partner organizations, including funders, managing a team of analysts, reviewing and finalizing deliverables, and preparing reports for a variety of audiences.

In addition, the manager will design analysis plans and data collection systems, collaborate with state and federal funders and research advisors, and analyze qualitative and quantitative data.

The Division of Geriatrics seeks a full-time Project Director for the Hospice Equity for people impacted by Alzheimer's and Related Dementias (HEARD) study.

The Project Director will work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) at UCSF to oversee a moderately sized research program focusing on health equity and community-engaged research.

The Project Director will represent the program to outside organizations, including state and federal funders, community-based organizations, and other institutions.

They will take a primary role in administrative operations, finance, and human resources for the program. They will also design and develop major program components, and administer the program's operational requirements.

Working closely with the PI and their collaborators, the Project Director will formulate short-term planning and procedures and develop and organize public meetings and presentations, including representing program and disseminating results.

The Project Director may also support other peripheral / ancillary research projects led / co-led by the PI and / or their collaborators cross-departmentally.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF.

For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

Department Description

The Division of Geriatrics' work is grounded in a deep commitment to and respect for older persons from diverse backgrounds and lived experiences.

We are specialists in aging. Our expertise is in optimizing the health of older individuals. We work in the community and on virtually every UCSF campus - Parnassus, San Francisco VA Health Care System, Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, Mission Bay, and UCSF Center for Geriatric Care.

The Division has over 130 employees including faculty, volunteer clinical faculty, fellows, staff, student interns, and volunteers.

Required Qualifications

  • Terminal degree in a related area (PhD, JD, MD, etc.) and / or equivalent experience / training required.
  • Minimum 5 years of related experience.
  • Academic background and experience in selected area of research.
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills.
  • Advanced ability to think creatively and independently on concepts requiring advanced analytical skills.
  • Advanced interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse groups to achieve results.
  • Advanced ability to work collaboratively with internal and external peers and managers.
  • Highly skilled grantwriting experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced knowledge of administrative, budgetary, human resources, and financial principles and practices.
  • Experience administering state and federal grants.
