Job Purpose
The Machinist will produce machined parts by setting up and operating equipment within the machine shop. The Machinist often produces small batches or one-of-a-kind items with minor direction for completing those items to the drawing specifications.
The Machinist uses their knowledge of the working properties of metals and their skill with machine tools to carry out the operations needed to make machined products that meet specifications.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Plans machining by studying work orders, drawings, material specifications, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters.
- Has a basic understanding and ability to interpret instructions including zero and reference points, setting tool registers, offset, compensation, calculating requirements including basic math, geometry and trigonometry
- Maintains specifications by drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing and thread chasing operations; taking measurements;
detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
- Notifies Manager for equipment maintenance needs; troubleshooting malfunctions or calling for repairs.
- Performs daily cleanup of tooling, equipment and area to reduce FOD
- Maintain 6 S standards throughout the designated work area
Qualifications
Education and / or Experience : High School Diploma or GED
Language Skills : Ability to read, write, and understand English
Mathematical Skills : Geometry, Trigonometry
Other Skills and Abilities : Ability to work with minimal supervision and identify conditions that warrant notification of manager.
Other Qualifications : Ability to use calibrated measuring tools to ensure part dimensions
General Job Requirements
- Must be able to frequently bend; twist; reach; stoop; kneel or crouch.
- Must be able to lift 25 pounds / 11.5 kilos on occasions.
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time
