Role Overview
In collaboration with the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO), Assistant CNO, and / or Associate CNO, the Director of Clinical Operations (DCO) provides essential leadership support to the cost centers within the Department of Nursing.
The DCO is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating daily operations, including staffing allocations, bed management, and patient throughput.
Key Responsibilities
- Regulatory Compliance : Ensure adherence to all relevant regulatory bodies, including but not limited to the Joint Commission, CMS, and state and federal agencies.
- Throughput Performance : Oversee hospital throughput performance and departmental efficiency, utilizing data analytics to drive improvements and ensure optimal performance.
- Process Improvement : Lead and participate in process improvement initiatives, quality and safety programs, patient care improvements, and corporate initiatives as directed.
- Systems Liaison : Act as the systems liaison and administrator for the Department of Nursing, managing systems such as Scheduling Excellence, PLUS, and clinical dashboards.
- Data Analysis : Employ innovative thinking and system knowledge to collect, analyze, and present data that supports data-driven decision-making.
- Support Nursing Vision : Promote the nursing vision, philosophy, and mission through professional behavior, communication, and presence.
- Resource Management : Assist in identifying, justifying, and acquiring necessary resources (personnel, supplies, equipment) for the nursing department.
- Patient-Centered Culture : Lead by example to foster a patient care-centered culture and an environment that reflects high levels of employee engagement.
- Partnership Building : Actively build partnerships with staff, customers, and physicians through effective communication, follow-up, and data availability.
Engage in service line development and capital projects as directed.
- Operational Efficiency : Support clinical practice and operational efficiency through leadership, effective systems utilization, and team collaboration.
- Additional Duties : Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
- Licensure : Florida RN license required or appropriate compact licensure. If compact license is held, an active Florida RN license must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
- Certifications : Specialty certification in Executive Nursing Practice and / or Healthcare Administration preferred. Membership with the American Organization of Nurse Executives is preferred.
- Experience : Minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience in a healthcare setting, with the most recent 3 years in a direct leadership role within a hospital.
Proven track record in project management, productivity management, and resource management.
Education : Associate's Degree required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
