JOB DESCRIPTION :

LACCD seeks a student-focused, equity-minded individual to join the District’s administrative team. Under the direction of the Associate Vice Chancellor, Educational Programs, this position is responsible for providing leadership and management of all federal requirements for accommodation and accessibility of academic and student support districtwide.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university;
  • Minimum qualifications for a DSPS counselor or instructor set forth in Section 53414 (a) through (d) or meet the minimum qualifications for an educational administrator as set forth in section 53420 and in addition have two years full-time experience or equivalent within the last four years in one or more of the following fields :
  • o Administration of a program for students with disabilities in an institution of higher learning;

o Teaching, counseling or administration in secondary education, working predominately or exclusively in programs for students with disabilities; or

o Administrative or supervisory experience in industry, public agencies, government, the military, or private social welfare organizations in which the responsibilities of the position were predominately or exclusively related to persons with disabilities.

Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENT COVID 19 VACCINATION :

Pursuant to LACCD Board of Trustee's Policy 2900, newly hired employees will be required to provide their vaccination status prior to starting a position or, at the latest, by their position start date.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  • One year of increasingly responsible full-time experience in an institution of higher education.
  • Knowledgeable of federal requirements for accommodation and accessibility of academic and student support programs.
  • Personal characteristics necessary for working with students, employees and the public in an administrative capacity, including demonstrating ethical behavior, stability, good judgment, and collegiality.
  • General knowledge of budget development, implementation, and management.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with participatory governance, budgeting and financial planning, strategic planning, and problem solving.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and experience with leading presentations using appropriate technological resources.
  • Knowledge or experience related to collective bargaining agreements and district policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in planning, organizing, and implementing programs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serves as District resource to faculty on implementing novel or complex student accommodations in the instructional setting.
  • Provides strategic feedback to college administration, faculty and student services staff to promote universal design in academic curriculum.
  • Interprets District policies and procedures with regard to providing student disability-based accommodations for implementing college administration, faculty and student services staff.
  • Plan, develop and coordinate with the college DSP&S directors and staff to ensure that policies and procedures are being followed and that all Student interactives and academic accommodations are completed in the specified timeframe and as appropriate for meeting educational objectives.
  • Coordination with ODEI and the ADA Compliance Officer to ensure the District is compliant with federal requirements for academic accommodation and accessibility of academic and student support services.
  • Support the EEAAP process, including working with faculty to determine use of software to achieve student learning outcomes and directing the work of vendors contracted to conduct accessibility tests on student software.
  • Organize a student accessibility advisory committee to gain feedback from the committee members on the effectiveness of the processes in meeting student program outcomes, learning supports and student success.
  • Organize the selection and use of a third-party consultant to provide recommendations on improvements on policies, procedures and processes related to student accommodations, accessibility and success of academic programs and services.
  • Work with academic senate to select appropriate natively accessible learning materials and create of accessible, low to no-cost textbooks for use in the curriculum development process.
  • Oversee the Multimedia Specialists on their activities related to supporting the EEAAP process and the conversion of instructional materials to Alternative Media formats that meet accessibility standards stated learning outcomes
  • Assess and provide recommendations for processes at the college used to convert media to accessible formats and the student interactive process used to determine academic accommodations.
  • Review all instances in which accessible media was not delivered by the timeline required in policy and procedure and make recommendations for improvements in process to ensure that these occurrences no longer occur.
  • Provide guidance and coordination the work of colleges in converting text books and other instructional materials to accessible formats with a goal of having a districtwide inventory of what has already been converted and ensure limited duplication of effort and maximum cross-college support.
  • Work with the College’s DSP&S Directors and EPIE to develop training opportunities for faculty on academic accessibility and ADA compliance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of the position

SALARY AND BENEFITS

The current salary range is $166,752 - $195,792 annually. The selected candidate will be placed on the salary schedule for that class based on a number of factors including but not limited to : education, scope and breadth of experience and responsibilities, skills, competencies and accomplishments in accordance with LACCD Board Rule 10509.

An additional, doctoral stipend of $5,940 per academic year is available for selected applicants possessing a doctorate degree from an accredited institution.
