Essential Duties and Responsibilities

College Career Military Readiness Support

  • Lead campus efforts in creating a pervasive college and career-readiness culture in the school and in the community
  • Facilitate and maintain a college and career center to support student access to resources
  • Utilize data collection methods to evaluate the campus' college and career readiness programs and events, and update the school college and career website to support students and campus post-secondary goals
  • Utilize data collection methods to evaluate and update the school profile
  • Build students, staff, and family awareness of importance of opportunities for CCMR assessments, communicate testing opportunities, and lead the implementation of test preparation strategies for all readiness tests such as SAT / ACT, TSIA2, and ASVAB
  • Build awareness and share information with students related to dual credit opportunities
  • Develop training and communication to build awareness for students, parents, and the community of how students achieve post-secondary goals
  • Advise students individually or in groups regarding college, career, and military readiness opportunities, utilizing research based materials, interest inventories, and other resources to aid students in planning for their futures
  • Collaborate with campus leadership and the campus CCMR committee in the development, implementation, and evaluation of campus CCMR goals
  • Support juniors and seniors in determining, developing, refining, and implementing their post-high school plan
  • Research district policy, procedures, precedent, and current practices prior to taking action and stay up-to-date professionally through the selection of quality staff development opportunities for personal and professional growth including mandatory district provided training related to college and career readiness

Application Process

  • Organize and support student engagement in the application process for college, career / jobs, and any branch of the US Military
  • Oversee, implement, and track student completion of FAFSA / TASFA, and Opt-out form
  • Develop partnerships with college and career / technical training programs and local career agencies such as Texas Workforce Commission, and all branches of the US Military that facilitate a smooth post-secondary transition for students and parents
  • Provide information and guidance to students and parents through the college application process
  • Provide information and support student access to application fee waivers
  • Promote, provide access, and advertise college events, financial aid education, and scholarships for students and parents through multiple communication methods
  • Provide students and families support in navigating the college and career readiness software program
  • Collaborate to track student scholarship awards annually

College Career Readiness Event Management & Training

  • Lead the development and implementation of a campus based scope and sequence for college and career readiness events including college and career days, student events, and parent nights
  • Identify and utilize research-based strategies and programs that cultivate college and career readiness for all students, especially students from low-income and first-in-the-family to attend college
  • Identify tools, provide resources, and implement systematic career exploration, linking investigation to academic success and post-secondary preparation
  • Provide access to opportunities, research materials, interest inventories, and other resources to aid students in planning for their futures
  • Organize college visits and field trips to support student exploration related college and career pathways
  • Advise, attend, and participate in District Based College, Career, and Military Readiness events
  • Collaborate and participate with the district team on the planning, implementation, and execution of district based College, Career, and Military Readiness events
  • Advise students individually regarding problem solving, study skills, decision making skills, academic growth and responsibility, communication skills, and appropriate social behavior, as well as assist students in career exploration and development, and the process leading to appropriate post-secondary educational placement, available scholarships and financial aid, and other resources
  • Communicate with and / or provide training to campus-based personnel on college and career readiness initiatives
  • Maintain a high level of collaboration with teachers, counselors, and other departments to ensure that all students receive services and supports necessary for college and career readiness

Qualification Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Master's Degree preferred
  • Valid Teaching Certification Issued by Texas Education Agency appropriate to subject and grade level of assignment preferred
  • Texas School Counselor Certification or Eligible for Texas Certification preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years classroom teaching experience and / or experience working with high school or college-aged youth
  • Demonstrated knowledge of financial aid, FAFSA / TASFA, college admissions, and postsecondary placement testing (SAT / ACT / TSIA) strongly preferred
  • Verbal & written communication skills in English and a demonstrated ability to read and comprehend written / graphic and oral instructions
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to use word processing, database, spreadsheet programs, data management programs, and PowerPoint or other presentation programs

and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Attendance at conferences and professional development is required. Work involves everyday risks and discomforts which require normal safety precautions when operating equipment or performing job duties.

May work prolonged or irregular hours and must be able to maintain emotional control under stress.
