Purpose and Scope :
The Heavy Lead Truck Driver will drive gas / diesel powered trucks. Pick up, transport and deliver parts, material, equipment and components to pre-determined destinations.
Vehicles may weigh up to 4 tons. Drives vehicles both on and off of government installations and in light to heavy traffic conditions.
Transports HAZMAT as necessary in performance of depot mission. Supervised by Operations Manager or Unit Lead.
Essential Responsibilities :
- Lead Truck Driver will lead all truck drivers on second shift.
- Drives trucks up to 14,000 pounds to destination for pickup and delivery based on instructions or directions received.
- Inspects truck(s) for defects before and after trips.
- Monitors vehicle during operation and reports maintenance / repair requirements to Dispatcher.
- Secures loads being transported to ensure safe and undamaged arrival at destination.
- Reports and receives direction via radio or cellular phone.
- Assists in loading and unloading of material transported.
- Perform daily preventive maintenance adjustments to truck.
Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.
Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands :
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee frequently is required to climb or balance.
The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl under and around trucks.
The employee must frequently lift and / or move up to 40 pounds and lift and / or move large crates / boxes. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, and vibration.
The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock.
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Minimum Requirements :
- Must be a United States Citizen.
- Must have a High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Minimum three years in both warehousing and truck driving experience including stake-bed trucks, ( ton) and 1 / 2 ton trucks, box trailer, flat-bed trailer and mechanized conveyor truck is required.
- Must have experience in parallel parking flat-bed trailers to docks.
- Must possess experience with current automated / integrated systems supporting warehousing functions to include experience with network and standalone PC's.
- Must be able to obtain license to use any equipment for which a current license is not held within 30 days of selection.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
