Position Summary
Dominican University of California is seeking an adjunct professor(s) with expertise in physics to teach conceptual physics lecture & lab courses for non-science majors.
Responsibilities
- Conduct and manage laboratory sessions for general chemistry courses, ensuring that students understand experimental techniques and safety protocols at undergraduate level
- Prepare laboratory exercises and materials in line with the course syllabus and learning objectives
- Evaluate student performance through lab reports, practical exams, and other assessments, providing timely and constructive feedback.
- Provide support and guidance to students, including answering questions, clarifying concepts, and offering feedback on their performance.
- Uphold academic performance standards and integrity.
Courses Descriptions
- Phys 1000 Conceptual Physics
- Course Description : An introductory physical science course, this course emphasizes a conceptual and intuitive understanding of physical science principles related to common physical phenomenon.
Students build scientific knowledge and critical and creative thinking skills through participation in demonstrations and discussions.
Topics will include : laws of motion; conservation of energy and momentum; light, sound and wave properties; atomic structure;
properties of matter, heat, electricity and magnetism; and an introduction to atomic and nuclear physics - 3 lecture hours.
Recommended for non-Biological Sciences or non-Chemistry majors. PHYS 1000 / PHYS 1005 meet the Science for Global Citizens CORE requirements.
PHYS 1000 / PHYS 1005 are designed to meet all requirements for the Physical Science portion of the California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential when taken in combination with BIO 1400 / BIO 1405 and PHSC 2200 / PHSC 2205 .
- Phys 1005 Conceptual Physics Lab
- Course Description : Lab component of PHYS 1000 - 3 lab hours. This course has an additional $25 Fee to cover lab materials.
PHYS 1000 / PHYS 1005 meet the Science for Global Citizens CORE requirements. PHYS 1000 / PHYS 1005 are designed to meet all requirements for the Physical Science portion of the California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential when taken in combination with BIO 1400 / BIO 1405 and PHSC 2200 / PHSC 2205 .
Required Qualifications
- Masters or PhD in in physics, physical chemistry or mathematically based science discipline
- Experience teaching at the undergraduate level
- Google Suite : Docs, Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Sheets, and Slides
- Microsoft Office Suite : Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Zoom
- Digital Camera
Preferred Qualifications
Ability to teach math or other quantitative science courses
Additional Position Information
