The opportunity
The General Education Program at Southern New Hampshire University invites applications from qualified candidates interested in teaching on-site for First-Year Seminar (FYS 101) to students on our main campus in Manchester, New Hampshire.
For this role, you will report to the Director of First-Year Seminar.
First-Year Seminar is a first-year, first-semester diversity requirement that fosters introductory study and discussion of hard history, race, class, and gender in the United States.
In FYS 101, you will support engagement with, and empathy for, the values and experiences of a diverse population.
In fall 2024, FYS classes will read by Erica Armstrong Dunbar. Dr. Armstrong will visit us on campus to give a talk about her work on Ona Judge in
FYS 101 is a three-credit, face-to-face course consisting of seventy-five-minute classes that run twice a week, during our regular sixteen-week semester (Sep.
3 Dec. 22). Course sections are capped at twenty students.
Full time, exempt employees receive $4,100 per section (overloads must be approved by school or supervisor). External adjunct instructors receive $3,000 per section.
What you'll do :
- Teach undergraduate courses as scheduled
- Attend instructor trainings / meetings
- Access student work and provide feedback
- Use Brightspace (the Learning Management System) to support the course
What we're looking for :
- Master's degree in a related field
- Experience teaching, coaching, or mentoring
- Commitment to the values of liberal education and investment in general education
- Academic background or personal / critical engagement with US history, race, class, or gender studies
- Your philosophical and personal comfort with standardized curriculum, in balance with confidence to make changes to lessons, on behalf of student learning
