Duties and Responsibilities
Finance Administration - 70%
- Effective July 2023, Workday is the financial system for the University of Washington.
- Responsible for faculty salary allocation, including complicated NIH salary cap applications.
- Understand and appropriately utilize multiple sources of income, including clinical trial contracts, federal grants, foundation grants, and gift accounts.
- Assure fiscal integrity and compliance with federal, state, sponsor, and institutional policies.
- Prepare budget proposals for grants, contracts, gifts, and operating funds requests.
- Maintain grant application documents for various sponsors, such as Other Support, Biosketch etc. for NIH, DOD, and stay aware of requirement changes.
- Oversee procurement, accounts payable and accounts receivable for the entire team.
- Oversee budget reconciliation and perform budget closeout and reporting processes.
- Provide regular financial reports for investigators and administration; create budget expenditure reports for individual projects, and overall budget projections for the group.
- Work with the GU Clinical Research Director and Research Manager to develop long-term strategic objectives.
- Issue and manage sub awards.
Administration and Personnel Management - 30%
- Hire and supervise operations and administrative staff; responsible for all HR matters including promotion, performance evaluation and corrective action.
- Serve as the liaison between the program and UW Human Resources to resolve personnel issues.
- Oversee faculty recruitment, appointment, and promotion processes.
- Assist with visa applications.
Lead Responsibilities
Serve as Program expert on post award financial management, UW and State Policies, and compliance.
Required
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, finance or business, or related field.
- Minimum two years’ experience in post award financial management.
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a group environment.
- Exceptional organizational and customer service skills.
- Strong written and oral presentation skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of faculty, management and clinical research staff.
- Advanced computer-use skills, such as Excel, and ability to learn new systems quickly and comprehensively.
- Ability to work independently and make decisions as necessary.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and to coordinate projects in a complex organization.
- Must be highly organized, service-oriented, team-oriented, flexible, and resourceful.
Desired
- Three years’ experience in post award financial management.
- Prior UW fiscal experience.
- Prior experience with CTMS Oncore.
- Prior experience with Workday.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the rules of allocable, allowable, reasonable
Working Environmental Conditions
- Fast-paced office environment, with a high volume of often-complex projects.
- The work is deadline driven and requires rapid and frequent communications, not only between individuals, but also by computer and / or telephone for much of the day.
- Projects may require travel between affiliate locations to facilitate budgeting communication or training.
- Work week regularly exceeds 40 hours per week.
- The position is located in a clinical and research environment on the Fred Hutchison Cancer Center campus.
- This position requires a flexible work schedule.
- Stringent deadlines from sponsor organizations / companies to meet deadlines may require overtime including occasional evening and weekend overtime.
- Employee is expected to be on site.
