In this hands-on manufacturing position, the Controls Engineer develops, designs, implements, manages and maintains equipment used to monitor and control engineering systems, machinery and processes.
Ensures that these systems and processes operate effectively, efficiently and safely for enhancement or equipment procurement in support of Lean organizational objectives.
Pay range of $90,000 - $125,000, commensurate with degree, experience and skillset.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
- Provides technical knowledge / support to the operation including basic and advanced troubleshooting, root cause analysis and corrective / preventive actions, installation and commissioning of new and existent equipment with support availability.
- Support in specific control disciplines such as advanced process control (APC), distributed control systems (DCS), programmable logic controllers (PLC), and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA).
Manages electronic format data, process parameters, hardware, and systems. Maintains Drives, Servos, and Encoders ensuring that all HMI and PLC programs are kept current and backed up regularly.
- Maintains, tunes, and modifies existing control systems following the company’s change control processes. Develop process control requirements for new or modified systems and participate in design review meetings with external vendors.
- Works collaboratively with other departments and other engineers to identify control systems’ needs and opportunities, troubleshoot problems, optimize equipment operations, and prevent failures.
- Manages full-scale projects or project milestones. Delivers new project proposals to stakeholders and leadership with business value and cost analysis to gain support and buy-in for potential implementation.
- Establishes and updates risk mitigation plans to avoid critical failures associated with parts reliability, spare parts shortages, electronic file issues, support software availability, complex recovery methods, and schematics inaccuracy to resolve or work around various controls or systems-related failures in a timely fashion.
- Transfers knowledge to support teams through training and documentation to improve recoveries. Helps to develop testing and interview material for Maintenance.
Participates in the hiring process for Engineers and Maintenance personnel.
- Researches and keeps abreast of new technologies. Acquires and shares knowledge associated with technological methods, practices, hardware, and software that may apply to the operation to include participating in various continuous improvement initiatives.
- Accomplishes duties using safe work practices and equipment while being responsible for reporting all injuries and observed unsafe practices.
Coaches fellow employees on safe work practices as appropriate and contributes to the overall success of the company’s safety program.
Performs related work and additional duties as needed or required.
Requirements
Education / Experience :
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required. Five years’ experience required in these specific activities (Instrumentation Controls, PLC programming, advanced electrical troubleshooting, and new equipment design) in a manufacturing environment.
Required Knowledge and Skills :
