POSITION SUMMARY

Prepare and analyze samples with accuracy and precision in accordance to SGS' analytical SOPs. Work independently and as part of a team to meet daily production targets and ensure hold times and turnaround times are met.

Understand and apply basic analytical chemistry principles. Always follow safe laboratory practices and maintain a safe working environment.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Analyst I, Laboratory conducts routine sample analysis, preparation, extraction, and digestion with and without the use of instrumentation following official methods and laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Builds their knowledge and skills in evaluation of the chemical and physical properties of various organic and inorganic substances for consumer product testing purposes.

  • Under direct supervision conducts routine analytical studies of samples, preparation, extraction, and digestion with and without the use of instrumentation following official methods and laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and protocols
  • Assists in preparation, submission and filing reports on client sample tests, correlation tests, calibration, validation and other projects
  • Performs routine operation, maintenance, calibration, and trouble-shoots laboratory instruments / equipment
  • May assist / gets exposure to development of the analytical methods, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and other operating, safety and quality documents for method development, transfer, and validation studies
  • Assists with investigation, and preparation of responses to client inquiries
  • Inputs and maintains technical information as needed to support the laboratory functions / operations
  • Maintains Laboratory Notebook
  • Adheres to internal standards, policies and procedures
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in a Chemistry or similar scientific discipline (Required)
  • 0-2 years of experience in Analytical Chemistry Laboratories OR 3 years of relevant experience ( Sample Prep) (Required)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Chemistry or similar scientific discipline (Preferred)
  • 1-2 years of years’ relevant experience in Analytical Chemistry Laboratories (Preferred)

  • Following correct methods and procedures to provide quality output and ensure compliance with QA protocols and policies.
  • Balancing speed with accurate, high-quality work to meet production schedules

  • Assists with investigation and preparation of responses to client inquiries and CARs.
  • Performs initial data review, verifying quality control standards met criteria and identifying samples that need to be re-analyzed and provides to more senior positions to further review.

  • Accountable for the Health, Safety and Environment performance of self and colleagues and adherence to all regulations as per the Company Health and Safety Manual and the immediate reporting of any health, safety or environmental incidents, accidents, concerns or hazards to the Manager / Supervisor and H&S representative for action.
