Sales Application Engineer- HVAC

At Armstrong Fluid Technology an Application Engineer is, in effect, a problem solver who determines customer needs on a project, and then selects the best Armstrong Solution most suited to that project.

About the Role : The Application Engineer provides Application Engineering support to US Regional Sales Managers (RSM's) and Customers as requested.

This position has some travel (30%) to various locations within assigned territory. The salary range is $80,000-100,000.

Responsibilities :

• Become a Design Envelope (DE) Expert and a technical advisor to assist both internal and external stakeholders (Regional & National Sales Managers (NSM's), Customer service), as well as US Representatives & Consulting Engineers understand what a particular Armstrong product is and how it is applied.
• Work within the RSEC framework to develop comprehensive solutions (Full Swing) that encompass all Armstrong products and solutions to meet and exceed the customers expectations.
• Working within Armstrong guidelines, preparation of quotations that meet customer requirements and budgets.
• Provide technical support, product information and training to both staff and customers.
• Attend meetings with RSM’s & NSM’s as required to establish the needs of our customers and propose design solutions.
• Development and collaboration in writing white papers, provide installation and maintenance guidance. As a technical expert they could be called upon to present Armstrong Solutions to specifiers.
• Shall pay attention to details, is flexible, confident, and able to work as part of a team or on their own initiative.
• Excellent communications skills, not just to explain technical information of varying levels of detail, but also to listen to a client’s requirements.

Active listening skills are mandatory.

• Customer relationships are important in this role, so an application engineer will also need be able to build and maintain strong relationships with their teammates, as well as internal and external stakeholders.
• Work closely with the Regional & National Sales Managers within your assigned territories to develop your relationship as a Trusted Advisor regarding Armstrong Products and Solutions.

Qualifications :

• BS in an engineering discipline from an accredited university, mechanical preferred
• Demonstrated knowledge of hydronic principles, general engineering practices, local and national building codes and regulations, policies, and procedures
• An understanding of the principles of thermodynamics, fluids, HVAC, and plumbing system design
• Preferred, 2+ years of relative industry experience working with engineering, manufacturing, and distribution operations in an industrial environment
• FE / PE license preferred
• Ability and willingness to travel within the US and Canada
• A willingness to work and grow within a team environment
• Commitment to further education within the HVAC, Plumbing and Fire Suppression fields
• Creative problem-solving skills, conflict management within different organizations (centralized and matrix organizational structures)
• Ability to break down complex problems in a simplified way, conduct root cause analyses and provide clear, well thought-out recommendations.
• Strong, team-oriented leadership skills with presence and a bias for action.
• Self-directed with ability to work autonomously and collaboratively and a focus on results.
• Ability to communicate in an open and authentic manner in all situations
