Microsoft’s Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO+I) team builds and operates Microsoft datacenters, which in turn power Microsoft’s cloud business.

We anticipate and provide capacity for continuous scale. The Software Engineer II, Cloud Operations and Innovation will deliver services, applications, and automation supporting datacenter planning, construction, and operation.

We own a large portfolio of services, including workflows that enable predicable, lowest cost datacenter construction, telemetry systems that drive high availability and optimized energy usage, and task and performance management applications that help our operation run as efficiently as possible.

Our core infrastructure is a target for cyber criminals and nation-state adversaries that seek to bring harm to our businesses, customers, and staff.

The security software engineering team is focused on delivering security and technology services across the datacenter delivery lifecycle.

Required / Minimum Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements :

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and / or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings : Microsoft Cloud Background Check : This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire / transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred / Additional Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science OR related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript
  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • 2+ years of full-stack application development with proficient OO coding / design by .Net / Java / C++ and modern frontend technology (Angular or REACT)
  • 2+ years of cloud-based service experience, e.g., Azure or AWS, with a comprehensive understanding of cloud architecture and ability of distributed system design, with the experience of delivering of large projects / web application with relational and / or non-relational (NoSQL) databases.
  • 1+ years of experience of physical access control API integration.
  • 1+ years of experience of the deployment, configuration or management experience of network-based hardwares.
  • 1+ years of DevOps experience of IoT devices and Azure Kubernetes Service.
  • Proficient skills in problem analysis and abstraction.
  • Effective communication skills and teamwork and comfortable with agile software development.
  • Self-motivated and consistent learner of new technology

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $98,300 - $193,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $127,200 - $208,800 per year.

Our Security Software Engineering team delivers innovative solutions that provide critical capabilities to our physical security partners at scale.

We are looking for a Software Engineer II, Cloud Operations and Innovation with deep technical expertise who can learn fast and contribute to a full Azure web application stack.

In this role you will develop and maintain capabilities focused on automation and advanced security controls for our physical security partners that supports the scale & growth of our global business.
