Registered Nurse - Women's Health Clinic - Outpatient Department

This is a locum traveling nurse position to support the Indian Health Service in Chinle, AZ

Position Overview : IHS, an agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, provides federal health services to American Indians and Alaska Natives.

The IHS is the principal federal healthcare provider and health advocate for Indian people, aiming to ensure comprehensive, culturally acceptable health services are accessible to American Indians and Alaska Natives.

The IHS serves approximately 1.5 million individuals from over 557 federally recognized tribes in 34 states.

Role Summary : We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) to join the Women's Health Clinic in our outpatient department.

The RN will provide professional nursing services, direct patient care, and care coordination for female patients. The role involves performing nursing duties, managing patient needs, and working within the competency standards outlined by the Service Unit.

Key Responsibilities :

• Provide skilled comprehensive nursing care, including triage, treatments, and maintaining health records.
• Conduct patient assessments, follow-ups, and evaluate outcomes; develop individual care plans.
• Offer contraceptive counseling and nursing care for prenatal, postpartum, and gynecological patients.
• Recognize complications and implement appropriate therapeutic interventions.
• Coordinate routine and specialized care services for patients, including High Risk and At Risk patients by provider referral.
• Identify resources to ensure follow-up appointments are met based on discharge instructions.
• Track targeted results and collaborate with the team to offer preventive screenings.
• Participate in administrative and community outreach activities, including quality improvement projects.
• Promote effective and harmonious work within the healthcare teams and with Native American patients and their families.
• Adhere to facility policies, TJC, OSHA, IHS, and other federal standards.
• Teach and provide health education to staff, patients, and customer owners.
• Perform clinical procedures, including intravenous access, phlebotomy, point of care laboratory testing, EKG, SVN respiratory -treatments, and response to emergency codes.
• Manage patient unit assignments and ensure medication inventory, daily checks, and unit logs are completed timely.

Work Schedule :

Monday to Friday, 8 : 00 AM to 5 : 00 PM (8-hour shifts totaling 40 hours per week).

One to two evening shifts per week from 5 : 00 PM to 7 : 00 PM.

One-hour lunch break during the day shift.

Qualifications :

Minimum 12 months of relevant nursing experience within the last 36 months.

Current, valid, and unrestricted RN license from a state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a U.S. territory.

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is mandatory; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and / or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications are preferred.

Valid state driver's license.
