As the Director, Business & Legal Affairs, you'll be responsible for providing legal and business affairs support in connection with the digital business activities for Concord’s music publishing division, this person will primarily assist with the drafting, negotiating, and management of blanket and full catalog settlement and licensing agreements with various digital and new media services.

The role will also involve an element of support for Concord’s digital and catalog rights enforcement activities. The position works under general to moderate supervision, based on the project or work to be completed.

Responsibilities

What you’ll do :

  • Review, draft, and manage the execution of various music publishing rights agreements with digital and new media services, including prospective licenses and prior use settlements.
  • Assist with the identification, deal structuring, and execution of new licensing opportunities in furtherance of Concord’s digital business strategy.
  • Help with rights enforcement activities, including working with outside litigation counsel, drafting cease & desist notices, and managing DMCA takedown initiatives.
  • Provide day-to-day business and legal affairs support to the publishing and shared services departments related to Concord’s music publishing licensing activities in the U.S.
  • Maintain and regularly update our standard licensing form agreements, best practices, and processes in accordance with Concord’s policies.
  • Work with shared services (including copyright, revenue tracking, and licensing teams) to ensure compliance of the direct blanket and full catalog license agreements, including in connection with the onboarding of major catalog acquisitions.
  • Stay up-to-date and advise senior management on digital music rights and related copyright matters in North and South America, including Section 115 of the U.

S. Copyright Act, the Digital Millennial Copyright Act (DMCA), U.S. copyright rulings related to content created using AI tools, and any other copyright law, related regulations, and any relevant treaties which may impact the exploitation of music publishing rights in the Americas.

Report (and provide support) to the VP, Legal & Business Affairs in New York, who oversees the global digital business for the publishing division.

Qualifications

What you’ll need :

  • J.D. or LLM degree from an accredited law school and ability to practice law in New York, California, Florida, or Tennessee.
  • At least 3-4 years drafting and negotiating complex music publishing and new media licensing agreements.
  • Excellent legal writing, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, handle complex transactions involving new media and experimental use cases, and produce practical and creative solutions.
  • Strong understanding of the purpose of the digital business team and desire to represent songwriters and music rightsholders in the new media / technology environment.
  • Great business judgment and extensive knowledge of the digital music business and U.S. copyright law, with some familiarity with and interest in international copyright laws and treaties.
  • The ideal candidate is conscientious, detail-oriented, self-motivated, and eager to learn.

Salary range : $115,000 - 130,000

This is a hybrid role requiring 3 days minimum on-site.
