Description
An opportunity exists for highly motivated, well organized, and entrepreneurial Senior Environmental Consultant looking to grow their career and help build an Environmental Permitting practice in Massachusetts and adjacent areas of New England.
The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership to our clients and collaborate with our staff on a variety of projects and actively pursue new opportunities while maintaining existing client relationships.
In addition to regularly interacting with clients and participating in business development activities, daily work will also include developing proposals, mentoring staff, driving our quality and health and safety program, and lending your regulatory expertise to deliver to our clients.
Your Opportunity
The Senior Permitting Consultant will perform program research, planning and development, permitting, compliance monitoring, inspections / enforcement, and technical support services in relation to air, water, waste, corrective action, mining, biology, and other environmental programs.
This position will also write reports, develop plans, and implement steps to move projects toward closure in the most cost-effective manner.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership on projects and thought leadership on solutions to environmental challenges for energy and other infrastructure projects
- Lead our teams that collect and report on tasks that will include, wetland delineations, threatened and endangered species habitat characterizations, land use mapping and vegetation cover classification, and other natural resource-focused surveys.
- Coordinate, oversee, and prepare permit applications for the US Army Corps of Engineers, Massachusetts DEP Division of Wetlands and Waterways, Massachusetts Environmental Policy Act, and Massachusetts, Public Waterfront Act
- Develop proposal strategies and lead / collaborate with a broader proposal team
- Partner with our engineer and design teams to deliver successful energy projects
- Lead business development initiatives with new and existing clients
- Lead the delivery of high-quality service on client projects
- Effectively communicate data collection methods and results to varied audiences that include clients, regulators, and the public
- Recruit, mentor, and support the professional development of staff
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Minimum 10 years' experience
- Demonstrated ability to successfully lead diverse project teams and manage large complex projects, particularly energy projects
- Experience with local, state, and federal environmental permitting in Massachusetts including experience with the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act, MESA, MEPA, CEPA, Chapter 91, Sections 401, 404, and 408 of the Clean Water Act (and associated Massachusetts Quality Certification requirements).
Experience with permitting in other New England states is a plus.
- Demonstrated experience in managing permitting applications and projects from start to finish
- An enthusiastic attitude to collaborate with others and be a key part of a team focused on building a regional permitting program
- Ability to review project work, quantities, costs, accuracy of specifications, completeness, and constructability
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; including advanced technical writing abilities
- Ability to prioritize, organize, and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously
- Ability to perform work accurately in a detail-oriented environment, and meet project deadlines
- Ability to prepare clear and concise reports, procedures, correspondence, and other written materials
- Demonstrated ability to build and lead teams, and successfully interact with clients, counsel, and stakeholders
- Ability to work well independently and with multi-disciplinary teams in a fast-paced environment
Education and Certifications
- Bachelors degree in Biological Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Geology, or a related field is required. Graduate degree is preferred
- Certification as Professional Wetland Scientist is preferred
