Building Envelope / Structural Engineer
We are currently seeking an energetic Building Envelope / Structural Engineer, who is passionate about repair and rehabilitation of existing buildings, to work in the Philadelphia metropolitan area.
This role will have an emphasis on inspecting historic building facades and / or structural systems of existing buildings, properties, and parking garages.
You will be responsible for providing project support from evaluation and design conception through construction. You will be on the ground level of building a department.
We are looking for a self-starter who is willing to work a longer workday and is willing to do more to build this new department.
This team member would be someone who has a love for historic buildings in and around Philadelphia.
Duties and Responsibilities
General
- Coordinate initial survey meeting and on-site evaluation with the project team members and clients.
- Comfortable with heights and repelling off of buildings in order to complete façade assessment.
- Prepare facade inspection reports for clients explaining existing conditions and repair / rehabilitation recommendations, specifically compliance with Philadelphia's Facade Ordinance and submission to L&I.
- Develop relationships with clients and build a professional network.
- Prepare written correspondence with clients, maintaining clear and professional communication.
- Maintain organized records, files, photos, drawings, and other essential project data.
- Competency in use of a drone or ability to complete drone training.
- Conduct field evaluations, document existing conditions, perform field testing, create photo records, and create field sketches.
- SPRAT Training required or ability to complete SPRAT Training.
Office
- Assist with preparation of design drawings / specifications and bid documents.
- Prepare written correspondence with clients and contractors, maintaining clear and professional communication throughout the lifecycle of the project.
- Work with an HR Representative to facilitate building their team.
Requirements
Education
Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in Engineering
Work Experience
Minimum of 2-5 years of experience as a PE in an architecture / engineering consulting firm (preferred).
Field Experience
- PE in Pennsylvania (PE in NJ, DE, MD, and / or NY a plus)
- OSHA-10 Certification required OSHA 30 preferred
- Valid US Driver's License required,
- Competent or Proficient in rope access.
Skills and Other Requirements
- Demonstrates an understanding of Construction Plans, Specifications, and other construction manuals.
- Proficient written and verbal communication skills.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in project documentation and deliverables.
- Strong project management, organizational skills, and ability to handle multiple projects concurrently.
- Knowledge of building codes, regulations, and industry standards.
- Ability to work in the field and to travel outside local areas as workload and projects when needed.
- Efficient time management skills while adhering to project budgets.
- Ability to troubleshoot construction issues and installation details with contractors on-site.
- Familiarity with drafting software such as AutoCAD preferred.
- Familiarity with technical specifications writing (such as CSI Masterspec or similar) preferred.
- Preferred experience with designing repairs and preparing design drawings, sketches, and specifications for real-world applications, with limited oversight.
Physical Demands
Height and Access Equipment
- Safe operation and use of ladders, scaffolds, articulating boom lifts and other access equipment as required.
- Ability to work safely at heights.
- Premier has a inhouse safety representative to assist with developing safety procedures when working at heights.
Outdoor Environment
Ability to work in diverse weather conditions, including but not limited to :
o Temperatures above 85 degrees F or below 40 degrees F.
o High humidity levels (above 90%).
o Adverse weather conditions like snow / ice, rain, and wind.
Mobility
Extended periods of standing and walking, possibly on uneven or challenging terrains.

Schedule
Full Time, Monday - Friday
Location
Office and field position in Philadelphia and surrounding areas.
Compensation
Hourly position commensurate with experience - $90,000 - $150,000 per year
