Job Description
The Assistant Director provides administrative oversight and support for the Career Services Center through supervising and executing the departmental efforts for marketing, promotions, outreach, event planning and employer / community relations.
Strategizes with each Academic Deans, Department Heads and faculty to research, create, and cultivate employer relations and connections for students through developing long-term relationships with employers.
Additionally, responsible for building relationships and creating awareness among corporate and community organizations with regard to the benefits of hiring Tarleton State students and graduates from all campuses.
Maintains current knowledge base of labor market trends, occupational information and the local, state and national employer base.
Administers strategic oversite to ensure departmental outreach, community relations, alumni relationship management, employer relations and marketing strategies are conducted in a streamlined, consistent effectiveness.
Ability to work some non-traditional work hours including evenings or weekends. Travel is a significant factor in this position.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
Event Planning / Promotion / Marketing (30%)
Primary lead for job fairs and other departmental events regarding timeline development, execution, logistics, recruitment, room reservations, catering and other relevant collaborations with key stakeholders.
Liaise with University College Communication Specialist to create and deploy promotional materials for employer engagements with campus (ex.
departmental social media, website updates, university calendar, , flyers, digital images, resume book edits, student giveaways, etc.).
Community Outreach / Campus Employer Liaison (35%)
Oversees the facilitations of relationships between employers and the University community including students, faculty, staff, alumni and outreach campus.
Enhance employer presence on campus which includes, but not limited to : campus recruitment, job postings, internships, career fairs, classroom presentations, informational booths, etc.
Oversee, organize and execute the representation of Career Services in a variety of university, community and other networking events, visits to employer sites, and hosting organizations on campus for employer development and cultivation purposes.
Oversee, organize and execute the involvement in various local, state, regional and national organizations such as Chambers of Commerce, Societies of Human Resource Management, NACE, alumni chapters, MAC3, TxCEIA, etc.
that will enhance the development of employment opportunities for students.
Provides strategic oversight of employers recruiting needs and collaborates with faculty to maximize mutually beneficial relationships.
Oversee the strategic cultivation and development in identifying and building relationships with regional, state, national, and international employers for recruitment of Tarleton State students and alumni.
Attend employer focused community events such as economic development associations, Chambers of Commerce, etc.
Seek to generate monetary and in-kind support and employer partnerships to propel the goals and career readiness / workforce development objectives of the department and university.
Maintain and encourage NACE Standards for recruiting, Department of Labor internship guidelines, etc. when working with employers.
Actively seek out and disseminate to direct reports and team a strong working knowledge of Tarleton majors / degree programs in an effort to connect the employers understanding with our graduates’ abilities.
Strategically develops and executes discussions with deans, department heads and faculty regarding tailored employer services for students.
Oversees the efforts to prepare and distribute employer events and recruitment information to students and academic departments.
Acts as the conduit with Alumni Services and The Office of Development to maximize mutually beneficial resources and possible employer / alumni relation opportunities.
Oversees the planning, organization, promotion and evaluation of the employer campus engagement process to enhance and deliver top quality service.
Supervision / Leadership / Administrative / Support (30%)
Responsible for the assessment, development, implementation and supervision of employer relations personnel (full and part-time) as well as generates outcome reports for employer relation efforts.
Aid in budget planning, strategic planning, goal setting, monthly and annual reports, etc.
Attend administrative staff meetings on and off-campus as well as conferences and workshops regarding career planning and job search as funds are available.
Collaborate with the Director and Assistant Director of Career Development to provide short, mid and long-range strategic goals for the department.
Monitors multiple workflows with employer relations initiatives, career development tasks and marketing / promotions to ensure appropriate staffing and project completion.
Oversee the compilation and assessment of the departmental employer relation efforts on all campuses including the employer partnership program and deliverables.
Other (5%)
Any tasks or assignments as deemed necessary by the director or to serve as director's proxy. Serve as a Campus Security Authority (CSA).
Document and report to the university police any crime information that you believe is provided to you in good faith; participate in Clery Act Training for CSAs;
become familiar with the Campus Security Authority Reference Manual located on the University Police Department web site.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Five years of related experience.
Preferred : Bachelor’s degree and 5 years’ work experience in corporate relations or higher education employer / external relations.
3 years supervisory experience. 3 years’ experience in developing and assessing corporate relation programs. Possess a dynamic, professional demeanor with exceptional organizational, leadership, written and public speaking skills.
Exhibits a motivated / enthusiastic positive work style. Ability to exercise independent judgment, exceptional time management skills, work independently and in a team environment.
