Overview
M Health Fairview Ridges Hospital in Burnsville, MN is looking to develop the intern program with 1st year pharmacy students.
Located just south of the Twin Cities, in Burnsville, MN , Ridges hospital has 180+ beds with a robust emergency department.
The pharmacy department provides extensive clinical services contributing to top tier patient care.
1st year pharmacy students will gain exposure to a hospital pharmacy department through various technician tasks and shadowing opportunities.
Technician duties may be assigned as needed / able. The goal will be to set the student up to successfully progress to an intern role following completion of 1st year.
This is a casual position, but students will be expected to staff every fourth weekend (Sat / Sun 8 hour shifts). There is opportunity to pick up further hours as desired.
Responsibilities Job Description
- Gain proficiency with the operations of the inpatient pharmacy at Ridges Hospital
- Assist technicians with tasks as needed / able
- Assist central pharmacist with tasks as needed / able
- Accurately fill and check medications to fill the Automated Drug Distribution System (Pyxis)
- Supervise retrieval and disposal of anesthesia medication waste
- Identify additional opportunities to improve patient care and the performance of the pharmacy department
- Identify additional opportunities to grow and expand the intern program at Ridges
- Participate in team meetings / discussions with clinical pharmacy specialists, pharmacy residents, pharmacy students, and pharmacy technicians
- Foster an environment of teamwork with other department staff and customers.
- Provide training and education to other staff members.
Qualifications
Minimum Education
Enrolled in pharmacy school
Minimum License / Certification / Registration
Pharmacy Technician Registration required for 1st year students (Technician certification encouraged)
Additional Requirements :
Excellent communication skills. Proficient in the English language. Ability to manage time and people effectively. Good attention to detail and critical thinking skills.
Ability to follow policies and procedures.
