This position is a 12-month Limited Term (LT) and may be extended up to 24 months or become permanent.
Are you an accounting professional with a passion for wildlife conservation? Consider joining the Accounting team as we support the programs carrying out the mission of the Department of Fish and Wildlife.
Under the close supervision of a Senior Accounting Officer (Supervisor), the Accountant Trainee performs professional accounting duties in a learning capacity in the Accounts Payable Section, Miscellaneous Claims Unit.
The incumbent learns to review, audit, and approve invoices through the Financial Information System for California (FI$Cal) or through manual process, and to resolve various issues handled by the unit.
The position is headquartered in the Natural Resources Building located in downtown Sacramento. The office is right next to Light Rail for an easy commute and features ergonomic furniture, panoramic downtown views, a free employee gym, a cafeteria and bodega, and adjacent childcare.
Working Conditions
Ability to use a computer keyboard several hours a day. Daily use of a personal computer, office equipment, and / or telephone.
Standard office environment. Involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods. Work with staff statewide to complete work assignments.
Occasional travel may be required to attend meetings and hearings via private or public transportation. Overtime required and limited time-off during the year-end Financial Statement period.
Position may be eligible for a hybrid telework schedule depending on operational needs.
This position qualifies for Public Service Loan Forgiveness Accrual Credit.
