Children’s Nebraska, with the University of Nebraska College of Medicine (UNMC) is currently recruiting child neurologists and pediatric epileptologists for our growing hospital.

This affiliation aligns the two organizations in a way that allows a shared vision for the future of pediatric health care and ensures children have access to world-class clinical care.

There are eight designated Child Neurology providers with experience of treating complex patients with epilepsy, cerebral palsy, migraine, encephalopathy, demyelinating diseases and other conditions on the Children’s campus.

There is strong collaboration with UNMC Neurology / Epilepsy Team at UNMC and opportunity to develop individual areas of clinical and research interests.

All individuals will hold faculty appointments at the UNMC. Children’s is the only full-service, pediatric health care center in Nebraska, providing expertise in more than 50 pediatric specialty services to children across a five-state region and beyond.

The Child Health Research Institute was established in 2017 and aims to assist investigators with start-up funding and infrastructure for clinical, basic science or translational research.

Children’s Nebraska is accredited as Level 4 Epilepsy Center with eight dedicated Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) beds on Children's campus The EEG monitoring, resective epilepsy surgeries and implantation of neurostimulation devices are offered for adult and older pediatric patients.

The dynamic team of three board-certified epileptologists and clinical neurophysiologists has experience and research interests in immune inflammatory epilepsies, complex epilepsy surgeries, ketogenic diet and functional neurological disorder.

Robotic-assisted and minimally invasive epilepsy surgeries are offered by the internationally-renowned neurosurgeons.

The Department of Pediatrics is the UNMC College of Medicine’s second largest department. Faculty and staff are based in 20 divisions, generally organized along subspecialty lines.

There are currently 150 faculty members and 72 UNMC staff within the department. In addition, nine faculty members are geographically based at UNMC’s Munroe Meyers Institute (MMI), Nebraska’s federally designated University Center of Excellence for Developmental Disabilities Education, Research and Service (UCEDD) and hold their primary Academic appointments in the Department of Pediatrics.

One faculty member each in the Dean’s and Chancellor’s office also base their academic appointments in the Department of Pediatrics.

Most of the Department faculty carry out their clinical activities at Children’s with activities in select clinical areas occurring at The Nebraska Medical Center, which is operated by UNMC’s primary adult academic partner, Nebraska Medicine.

The Department of Neurological Sciences at UNMC has 50 clinical and research faculty members and has a robust infrastructure to support clinical and academic activities of a rapidly growing faculty.

DONS has achieved regional and national reputations with university-grade across subspecialty services in Epilepsy, MS, Movement disorders, Vascular Neurology and Tele-stroke network development, Neuropsychology / Behavioral neurology, Neuromuscular disorders, Epilepsy, Neuro-ophthalmology, Neuro-Critical Care and Neuro-ophthalmology, along with multiple clinical Centers of Excellence.

The DONS research endeavor is rated first in funding among Regent’s designated per institutions. This includes the Mind and Brain Health Labs with state-of the art simulation and sensor technology for tracking real-world health and behavior, a Medical Human Factors initiative, the DICON (Dynamic Imaging in Cognition and Neuromodulation) lab, the CAMRI (Core for Advanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging) with a state-of-the-art research MRI, MEG (magnetoencephalography), Developmental, Degenerative and Regenerative Neurosciences basic sciences laboratories, and a Nebraska Regents approved Center for Integrative and Translational Neurosciences (CITN).

The DONS also serves as the headquarters of the Great Plains IDeA Clinical and Translational Research Network, which spans four states and nine universities, and is aimed at developing new medical research and training new scholars.
