The Department of Engineering Education Department (EED; ) and embedded Integrated Business & Engineering Program (IBE : ) in collaboration with the Center for Software Innovation (CSI : ) at The Ohio State University invite applications for a regular, 12-month, practice-track appointment in the areas of Engineering Education and Software Innovation.
This position will start as early as July 1, 2025.
Position Overview
We seek applicants with a software background to advance the mission of the Center for Software Innovation and the newly established Integrated Business & Engineering, Software Innovation track develop curriculum and teach related coursework for a new software innovation undergraduate educational track in the Integrated Business & Engineering Honors program (IBE-SI).
The IBE program was established in 2014. The new Software Innovation (SI) track enrolled its first class of students in Autumn 2023.
The faculty member hired for this position is expected to support CSI, IBE-SI, EED and future expansion of SI-related initiatives and courses across the OSU community.
This position will be housed within the EED. Additional service expectations for the department will also be expected.
You will be joining a highly collaborative community as part of the Center for Software Innovation (CSI), which seeks to equip innovators with the skills, tools, and resources to build the digital economy.
As a faculty member aligned with the CSI, you will be expected to participate in a variety of scholarly activities that contribute to the CSI mission's overall success.
These include working with the CSI in :
- Development of courses and learning outcomes in alignment with the objectives of the CSI
- Meeting with industry partners, individuals, and focus groups to understand the skillset students need
- Collaborating to develop hands-on experiential learning opportunities (e.g., lectures from industry professionals, workshops focused on application, and student project development)
- Partnership in developing general thought leadership content to be marketed by the CSI
- Leading or participating in learning sessions that include the broader, off campus community
- Providing service in the form of mentorship and input related to new software ventures and innovation
Qualifications
- A Ph.D. or other terminal degree in engineering, computer science, engineering education or another field of study relevant to the area of software innovation or demonstrated industry work experience in the software / technology fieldindustry
- Proven skills and experience in innovative software strategy, design, development, and launch.
- Demonstrated Eevidence of successful teaching and / or mentoring of teams of (students or employees) in engineering and / or business contexts
- Demonstrated excellence in oral, written, and graphical communication
- Excellent interpersonal skills when working with both external and internal colleagues or interdisciplinary teams
- Demonstrated efforts in research, teaching, and / or outreach and engagement that reflect Ohio State’s
- Leadership and Collaboration : The candidate should Prior demonstrated leadership and the ability toeffective collaboratione effectively in a professional or academic setting.
- Teaching and Mentoring : Prior Eexperience or training in teaching and / or mentorshipi of technical teamsng within a professional context is desirable.
- Communication Skills : Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required, with a focus on working constructively, decisively, and collegially with both external and internal colleagues and interdisciplinary teams.
- Independence and Initiative : We value individuals who can Willingness to work independently and areas a proactive self-starters with strong project leadership skills.
- Innovative Thinking : The candidate should be oOpen to sharing ideas, continuously learning, and displaying innovative thinking.
