The Opportunity
Williams International has an exciting opportunity for a Business Process Technical Writer to join our team.
The Business Process Technical Writer’s primary function is to organize both the enterprise and functional level creation and revising of Williams International’s corporate policies, procedures, manuals, handbooks, and Common Operating Procedures to ensure that they are cohesive, consistent, complete, concise, and avoid as much duplication as possible.
The main objective of the position is to provide new and existing Team Members with governance documents that are easy to find and understand as tools to help them successfully do their jobs.
Position requires the ability to work onsite % of the time. No remote or hybrid options available.
Additionally, the Business Process Technical Writer :
- Identifies or responds to Team Member / Management requests for new or updated documents.
- Works with Subject Matter Expert(s) (SMEs) to gather process steps and translate them into logical, easily consumed documents to be used by others for both governance and teaching purposes.
This includes evaluating all documents to ensure accuracy and consistency and avoid duplications and / or contradictions with other documents system-wide.
Works with the various stakeholders (including all levels of management) to ensure all parties’ needs are met in this area.
This includes planning and implementing changes in processes as the need arises and publishing the new information to all affected functions.
- Routes and facilitates management approval of all documents in Product Vision.
- Publishes approved new or updated documents in WI Connect and informs Quality who announces the publication to all Team Members via periodic emails.
- Coordinates with Quality when Common Operating Procedures are affected by requested changes.
- Assesses current processes and works with management and SMEs to facilitate functional and system-wide process improvements.
- Prepares and / or revises internal training as needed.
- Maintains an open action log to facilitate communication and statusing with management.
- Maintains the Business Continuity Plan as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in business administration, engineering, communications, or a related field with years’ experience.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills both written and oral in one-on-one and team settings are a must. These skills will be needed to address all levels of the organization, so the ability to connect with the audience, read their understanding of the subject, and adapt on the fly is crucial.
- Must be able to gather and analyze complex technical data and information and produce clear, concise, accurate, and complete documentation for end users while meeting applicable, standards, requirements, and schedules.
- Strong analytical and logic skills and an innate intellectual curiosity - these abilities are needed to translate SME inputs of complex tasks into understandable flowcharts and written words so that they can be communicated to others.
- Flexibility of thought while paying attention to details - the capacity to make connections, draw parallels, and root out duplications and / or contradictions will be needed to ensure system-wide document accuracy and consistency.
- Teaching / coaching / mentoring skills - good people reading skills, patience, empathy, and ability to rephrase / reframe in response to Team Member needs to facilitate the documentation of processes and process interrelationships.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively, including promoting positive working relationships with other personnel.
- Computer skills a good working knowledge of the Microsoft Suite including Word, SharePoint, and Visio is highly desirable.
The Business Process Technical Writer will be trained in the Product Vision software (which is used for document management and approval) on the job.
- Responsible for and accountable for product safety and the quality of work, including, as a minimum, all elements defined in the Company’s Quality Policy.
